"I'm sure Richard has regaled you with plenty of stories about me," she said, letting the statement hang in the air before continuing, "and my relationship with Death. Both my parents were taken from me at a very early age."
I nodded. "He told me. About Augusta, and your father."
"Then you'll know I mean what I say when I tell you I know the pain of losing a parent. How it never ceases to shock and ache. Why, I've just lost my third, myself."
I managed to smile. "Me, too."
She grinned. "Aren't we just a pair."
