October 31st, 1874
Charles Hannigan celebrated his 21st birthday, on Halloween, with his family. "You can finally have tequila!" Caleb slapped his brother on his back. "Your brother knows better. He will not be out getting wasted like the rest of the world. Right Charles?"
Charles nodded.
"So, a scientist? Not a lot of men want to be that at your age." Atticus, his father, said. "I love science, father. I want to know more. My research starts in Egypt." Charles explained. "Forget science," Charlotte, Charles' sister, came out with wine in her hand. "You're finally old enough to have a hand in marriage."
"Marriage?" Penelope, his mother, wondered. "He met someone..." Charlotte whispered. "Charlotte!" Charles frowned.
"What's her name?" Penelope asked. "Lucille Paige." "Interesting."
"Girls? Cooties." Cooper, the ten year old brother, was disgusted at the fact that his brother wanted to marry someone. "She is perfect, mother."
"Make sure she doesn't become just a maid like the other women. Women aren't allowed to do so much. Men just think we are meant for cooking, cleaning, and their only chance to have a child." Atticus chuckled. "Darling, you know I don't think of you that way." Atticus leaned in to kiss his wife. They kissed. Charlotte sniffed the air.
"Do you smell gas?" Charlotte wondered. "Sorry..." Cooper trailed. "No, Cooper, I mean-"
But it was too late. The house had blown up, with everyone in it. Except for one.
Charles coughed. He saw five bodies laying in the same place. "Mother? Father? Brothers? Sister?" Charles held their bodies in his arms as he cried. He kissed their foreheads, and vowed that he would find a way to bring them back. No matter what the cost.
Present Day
Charles, now the caretaker of Anubis House, stood at the front of the table with his five "brothers" and "sisters". They were the new Secret Society.
Charles lifted his hood.
"They're coming."
