A young boy of nine squealed with laughter, diving through the legs and around the figures of several full grown Ellon (male elves) in their shimmering dark blue and brown robes - most of who smiled at the sight while the odd one or two scowled at the disturbance. Estel did not care and kept running, glancing back over his shoulder once in a while. Upon seeing a flash of brown and green, he squealed louder.

He jumped onto a stone bench ready to tuck and roll over the tops of a neatly trimmed hedge, but a set of arms wrapped around his waist before he could. Screaming gleefully as he was lifted off his feet, the melodious laughter of his pursuer mixed with his own and filled the air as he was spun around a few times.

"Na vedui!! (At Last)" a young woman's voice exclaimed, and the child beamed bright as day when a kiss was pressed on top of his head, through his scruffy dark brown almost black hair.

"Naneth, Leithio nin! (Mother, Release me!)" Estel giggled, twisting in her arms.

The young boy was placed back on the bench and he turned, puffing his chest out proudly at the Elleth (Female Elf) in a long green dress. Keerla stood a head taller than him with a soft smile, rubbing a smudge of dirt from his forehead. His playful grey eyes met her deep brown ones, and even at his young age, he could see the sadness she was hiding.

"Prestad? (Trouble?)" he asked quietly, frowning as he pulled at her long braid of brown and reddish pink hair.

"Boe annin gwad, (It is necessary for me to leave)" she told him delicately, cupping his cheeks in her hand while trying not to laugh at his pouted lip.

"Amman ledhiach? (Why do you go?)"

Unable to find the correct words in the elvish language, the Elleth sighed and sat by his feet, tugging him lightly into her lap. She wrapped her arms around him, chin resting on his shoulder.

"I am needed elsewhere, dear one, my friends need my council and aid."

Holding her hand in both of his, Estel traced a finger along the creases of her palm, "When do you go? For how long? Will you return?"

"Steady your heart, little cub," she laughed quietly, "I will leave by the morrow's sunrise, and i do not know for how long i shall be gone. But i will return here Estel, i will come back to you. I swear it on my heart."

"Gwestog, Naneth? (Do you Promise, Mother?)"

"Estelio nin, hên (Trust me, child)" she murmured, pulling him into a tighter embrace.

They sat like that for a while, Estel pressing his head against the soft warm skin of her chest to hear her beating heart, Keerla running her fingers through his hair to try and ease her own pain at their coming separation. Suddenly, Estel jerked out of her arms, onto his own feet and grinned.

"Don't leave without seeing me in the morning; promise me on your heart!"

"Of course i will see you, little cub," she told him, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
