A girl walks across the street
A car approaches from a far
Slow down
slow down
Wides eyes stare in alarm
But the driver doesn't notice
Not in his drunken state
Slow down
slow down
But it's already too late
The girl hurtles forward
Screames breaking through the silence
The driver keeps driving
Through the blood of his cars violence
But the girl just keeps on breathing
Through the pain that's in her chest
Footsteps running quickly
Catching her last breath
As her eye lids slowly flicker
and her soul slowly flies
Slow down
slow down
She closes her eyes
Her mother is crying
Tears dripping on still cheeks
Begging
and pleading
For her daughter to speak
Slow down
slow down
The words echo in her cries
As her grief overflows
Asking God the reason why?
Why did her daughter cross the street
and end up in this blood filled path
Why did she have to endure
A drivers drunken wrath?
Why
why
why
But the answer never comes
As the tears just keep on falling
Her daughters life is done
Her heart has long stopped beating
She'll come to no more harm
As she lays so still and silent
In her mothers arms.
