Casualties Of War

I was always being told

that love didn't have a definition

that I was just a player

in a loveless remition

turning broken hearts

into the latest competition

but then I saw your face,

and suddenly had a new addiction

And everyone smiled at the two love

birds sitting in a tree

chirping and sining

in perfect harmony

until came the day

you made a fool outta me

walked out of my life

your hand still holding the key

But you couldn't stay away

you needed your fix

the heat of my touch

and the taste of my lips

So you walked through my door

let the chemicals mix

The same old bloodlust with

a dangerous new twist

Now there was two playing this game

Of lovers and liars

You tried to play with my heart

but you were playing with fire

So I lit the match

and watched the flames burn higher

As we became prisoners

of our poisoned desire

and the door continued to

slam in my face

After all I was just a guy

and therefore easy to replace

I couldn't hide the panties

with the flimsy black lace

And try as you might you couldn't

hide your distate

But you kept coming back

always afraid to admit

that I had become your

secret habit

You hid in affairs

always afraid to comit

to this disaster of a relationship

So the years continued

to a symphony of goodbyes

But you always came back

for that second try

I so badly wanted to be your guy

But I was just a player

and you were just the victim

of a pickup line

Then came the day

when you finally left through my door

said you wanted nothing

to do with anymore

Hugged me goodbye

like the wounds weren't sore

after all, I was just another

casualty of war.

And I let you leave

Because really? What else was there

for me to do?

I convinced myself that the words

were true

I was a player through and through

So why couldn't I

just get over you?

I didn't know what I was missing

until it was ready to be missed

now I'm frozen in the memory

of our last shared kiss

with my shattered ego

as catalyst

now, don't pretend, that you don't regret

a single moment of this.
