NOT PRETTY

Everyday you say I'm pretty
I usually just smile and you walk away
That didn't happen today
I just snapped
I looked dead your eyes and said
NOT PRETTY
You looked right back
I said again
NOT PRETTY
then it was I who walked away
Went through the day in a haze
And when I got home
On my stomach
I wrote two words
NOT PRETTY
I don't get why you think I am
You're the epitome of good looking
Yet everyday you say that's me
But I'm telling you
I'm NOT PRETTY
I've been told I was so many times
My hazel eyes and dark curls
Long legs and perfect teeth
But I'm NOT PRETTY
Get to know me, you'll see
I'll roll up my sleeves for you
And you'll see
See the bruises left
From the bullies, my father, and me
I'm just not pretty
