Mary Reynolds gets up from dinner. Same as last night. And the night before. Soup. Hasn't stocked up since Jon died. Answers the ringing phone on the wall.

"Mary," a voice says.

"Who is this?" Mary says.

"A friend," Jane says. "I can't talk long. There's someone coming to your house. He has a gun. He's looking for money. Don't trust anything he says. I thought you should know."

Mary starts to say something. The line goes dead before she can.

Something catches her eye outside. Headlights. They creep toward the house. Could be Red coming back with Wil. Not likely, though. He would've called.

It's probably one of those oil company people. Still trying to get her to sign that contract. They stopped being polite months ago. Probably sending some strong arm to rough her up.

Mary doesn't think twice to go for the shotgun leaning against the disheveled bookcase.
