once finn's role in their cooking fiasco was discussed, vienna began to dig through one of the many cupboards for ingredients. however, since she was a slightly short girl, vienna was struggling on reaching the ingredients near the back.
she grumbled under her breath, knowing this was her fault since she just loved to chuck the ingredients back into the cupboards, instead of peacefully placing them back in. apparently, she had enough upper arm strength to send the bag of flour to the back.
in the middle of the kitchen, finn simply watched the girl's humorous struggle to grab whatever ingredient she was looking for. from his mouth erupted a few low laughs, those of which he hoped vienna hadn't heard.
unfortunately that wasn't the case.
"hey skinny boy, you going to come help a girl out or are you just going to keep watching her continuous but most likely entertaining struggle for a bag of flour?" vienna huffed out, breathless from the dozen jumps she had made in an attempt to grab the bag.
finn let out a couple of laughs, this time not bothering to try and quieten them down. "no need to be so mean to me when we all know you're battling with yourself on the inside about how you wish you were a few inches taller."
vienna's head spun around, her eyes narrowed at the boy in front of her. "no need to be so mean," she mocked. " oh boo hoo. just come her and use those tiny arms to lift me up so i can finally get my hands on this bloody bag."
"i'm coming, i'm coming." he assured, rolling his eyes. he reached the waiting girl and carefully placed his hands on her small waist. when he did this, he knew that she caused something to go off inside of his body, making him feel a little warmer inside. he had his girl in his hands.
what he didn't know was that where finn had placed his fingertips, the skin beneath it felt like it purely on fire. vienna's heart fluttered at the thought of being held by such a lovely person and the ghost of smile danced upon her lips.
without warning, finn lifted vienna into the air with little difficulty and she quickly reached her arm out, grabbing the ruddy bag of flour. before finn returned her to ground, she quickly made sure to slide everything to the front so she wouldn't have any trouble in the future.
"thanks for that." vienna spoke, patting the boy's hands that squeezed her waist. he returned her thanks with a hum and placed her back on the kitchen floor, slowly removing his hands. he backed away from her, feeling too drawn to her.
"is there anything else that you need me to get?" he asked.
vienna moved to another cupboard, this time one that was easy to access and without looking his way, she nodded. "can you get the blueberries, the eggs and the milk from the fridge please?"
"sure." finn walked towards the fridge and got the ingredients she asked for then brought them to the island.
"you know," finn started as vienna started weighing out the flour, "i didn't think it would happen like this."
she put the spoon she was holding onto the marble of surface, eyeing finn from the corner of her eye. "what do you mean by it?"
"i didn't think the way we met would happen like this."
"oh. how did you want it to go?" vi asked as she cracked an egg into the bowl of flour.
finn blushed as he thought about the question. it was not that he was a romantic or anything but he pictured the cliché scene of them hugging. vienna would open the door and see him and jump into his arms.
however, he wasn't going to admit that to her. "i don't know."
vienna furrowed her eyebrows as she smiled, grabbing a fork from the drawer in front of her. she then used the utensil to whisk together the ingredients in the bowl, creating a thick batter which she then added some milk to. "mm, sure." she teased.
"i'm serious!" he replied with a light chuckle, watching her look quite content as she whisked.
"you really want to start our friendship off with some lying?"
friendship. damn that hurt, finn thought.
"lying? says the one who pretended her name was barbara not only five minutes ago!" finn accused and vienna let out a few giggles, "why would i ever?" he innocently questioned.
vienna just rose her eyebrows as she went to get a pan from a nearby cupboard. she placed it on the hob, turning the heat onto medium-high and poured a tiny amount of oil into the pan. waiting for the oil to heat up, the girl turned her head to the boy who was leaning his back against the kitchen island, his arms crossed on his chest.
"if you're trying to act manly," vienna taunted, "then it isn't going to fool me." she said, waving her finger around. the sounds of the hot oil sizzling filled vienna's perky ears and she turned to grab the bowl of mixture. "oh, and are you going to come and stick the blueberries in like you said or was that just another lie?" she wondered teasingly.
finn gave her the eye but still closed the gap between the two of them, the box of blueberries in hand. as finn's shoulder gently grazed vienna's, she spooned some mixture into the hot pan and finn dropped a few blueberries in the raw batter, watching the ends of the pancake sizzle.
she elbowed him lightly in the side, grabbing his attention.
"mm?"
"how did you picture us meeting?"
finn sighed, "it's silly."
she shook her head at the boy but her eyes remained on the cooking pancake. "it won't be, c'mon. just tell me."
"fine, i imagined you opening your front door. you would realise it was me and then jump into my arms, welcoming me into your life." he admitted.
vienna giggled at confession, "hey, don't laugh at me!" finn exclaimed.
"i'm not!" she confessed as flipped over the pancake, "i was actually going to hug you but hayley called on me."
finn let out a little breath, "you were?"
"why wouldn't i hug one of my bestfriends?" vienna asked as she replaced the newly cooked pancake with a raw one, finn then sprinkled in some more blueberries.
"bestfriend eh?"
vienna blushed, "yes, you're one of my bestfriends. please don't get cocky!" she said, shoving him lightly.
"don't worry little one, i guess you're one of mine too."
