THIRTY SIX (again, final)

Another month later and Austin has been nothing but amazing. He is literally the perfect boyfriend and some days I don't trust the calmness of the relationship, but I always get over it pretty quickly.

Deep down, I know that Austin would never intentionally fuck me over, but I guess it'll just take some more time until I completely get back to the point of trusting him blindly. But who knows, maybe I won't and maybe that's a good thing.
Maybe life wanted me to learn not to trust people blindly.

Either way I'm happy. I'm seriously, genuinely happy and not just because of Austin.
My dad has started treating me normally again and as a result, my parents also get along great again.

Nick and Ina... Well, nothing really changed with them, really. We're siblings, so we're bound to hate each other to some degree, I guess.

I made quite a lot of friends and they make me happy, too. Life is good right now.

"Okay, but what if he hates me?", I ask, looking up at Austin nervously.
We're about to go meet his dad and it's weird. I've heard a lot about him, but never actually interacted with him in any way.

"Oh, come on", Austin says as he rolls his eyes, "He won't hate you. I know he won't. Besides, you'll never actually find out yourself if you don't go inside."

I sigh dramatically, "If you insist."
"You'll live", Austin assures me jokingly, patting my shoulder.

We ring the doorbell and only a few seconds later, the door to the apartment complex opens and we step inside.

"I'm really scared, Austin", I say, my palms sweaty.
"It'll be okay. I'll be there the whole time and my dad will love you. I promise."
I take a deep breath, before continuing to climb the stairs.

"Here we are", Austin says as we reach the third floor. I can feel my heart rate speeding up.

You're being freaking ridiculous, I tell myself, Stop.

Austin leads me to a red apartment door. The doormat says "Welcome" and has a weird-looking smiley on it.

The tall boy knocks on the door lightly and it opens immediately.

"Hello!", a middle aged man with dark hair greets us enthusiastically, "Come on in!"

I smile awkwardly as I follow them into the apartment. It smells of food. Austin takes his shoes off, so I do, too.

I continue following my boyfriend and his dad further into the apartment. We reach a living/dining room, that looks really nice.

"So...", Austin starts, "Dad, this is Alan. And Alan, this is Robert."

"Nice to meet you, Alan. You can call me Rob. Anyway, I hope you like pizza? It's homemade, even."
"Oh, yes, of course", I respond nervously.

Austin takes my hand and gives it a comforting squeeze and I smile up at him thankfully.

"Well, go sit down boys, I'll get the food.", Austin's dad smiles. He really does seem like a genuinely nice person.

We proceed to take a seat at the wooden dining table. I look around, noticing a huge amount of family photos all over the room.

One immediately catches my attention. It shows Austin as a little boy, with a baseball bat in his hand, grinning like a Cheshire Cat. Next to him, are his father and a tall woman with long hair, which I assume is his mother.

I'm about to ask Austin about it, but his dad rushes into the room with a lot of what looks like cheese pizza.

It smells amazing. He starts cutting it up in slices and handing them out.

I thank him quietly and wait awkwardly for everyone else to start eating.
"Feel free to start", Rob immediately says as he notices me just staring at the table.

I look up quickly, embarrassed, "Oh, uh, yeah. Alright. Thank you."

I notice that there's no cutlery on the table, so I just assume that we are going to eat the pizza with our hands - which is totally fine by me.

Eating pizza with knife and fork is weird anyway.
Finally, both Rob and Austin pick up their slices of pizza, luckily without saying a prayer or anything formal like that.

I really like how relaxed the atmosphere is and that I just feel like... Home. It's so homely and casual and I love it.

We make some small talk while finishing the food. We then help Rob to carry the plates and stuff back into the kitchen.

"Don't worry, boys. I've got the dishes.", he says, "Thanks."

"Well, I'll be walking Alan home, okay? It's getting kind of late.", Austin informs.
"Oh, right. Yes, yes. It's been nice meeting you, Alan. You're a very nice young man. Maybe we'll see each other again some time."

"Yes, you too... Uh, Rob", I say, giving an awkward smile.
Austin tells his dad bye and then we leave. I let out a sigh of relief when we exit the building.

"It was that bad?", my boyfriend asks, taking my hand.

"No!", I say quickly, "No, no. Don't get me wrong, your dad is really, really nice and I liked him but... It was just really stressful for me. I'm not good with meeting new people and going new places. I was just freaking out on the inside the whole time. I liked your dad, though. I'm sorry. Do you think he noticed? What if he thinks I don't like him now?"

"Relax, babe", Austin chuckles, "It's okay. He liked you, I could tell. I'm proud of you, though. Just look how far you've come. Who would've thought that you would be walking to someone's house and casually meeting someone entirely new?"

"True", I admit.

As we arrive at home, Nick informs me of the fact, that mom and dad went out for their anniversary.

"I guess I'm staying for the night, then.", Austin decides and I don't argue. I would be insane to tell him not to stay over.

We go upstairs and since it's already pretty late and we've both been up and about all day, playing tag and acting like kids in general.

I change and Austin just stays in his shirt and underwear, since my clothes tend to not fit him very well.

We get into bed and cuddle close together, facing each other.

"Hey", the tall boy whispers.
"Hey.", I whisper back.
"Guess what?"
"What?"
"I love you."
"I love you too, you weirdo.", I smile.

"Why am I a weirdo now? didn't even do anything!"
"You're still weird. That's just a fact."

"Well, you're... Uh, you're... You're short. Almost a midget."
"We've established this.", I roll my eyes, "I'm normal and you're a giant."

"Doubt it", Austin says in a sing-song voice.

"Whatever.", I sigh, contently, moving even closer to Austin's warm chest.

All is well.

aha see what I did there? No? I'm just a nerd? Oh.

THE END IM GONNA CRY.

Thank you all so much for reading. We're at like 10k reads and almost 2k votes already and just thank you so much. I really appreciate it - especially all the nice comments.

I tried to make this a good story and I really hope it was. Personally, I enjoyed writing it a lot. I will try to edit some parts, in case I missed some typos or whatever, but if anyone cares, that won't be a priority, since I still have my fransykes going on.

So yeah, go read that if you want to, I guess. It's called How To Be a Gentleman.

Thank you so much again 💯

Also: for now, there won't be a sequel. I kind of have an idea though, but I won't be writing it for a while - at least until I finish two other stories.

Maybe I'll publish it as a one shot. We'll see.
