19th Poem: Song

I want to make a song

a song from the heart

I want to make a song

but where should I start?

A song

with my lyrics

pouring out experience,

telling the world all that is me.

Writing a song isn't easy

but who said it would be?

I have some ideas

on how it could be,

but 

how do you write a song?

You pick up your pencil, 

your pad,

your pen,

you try to start writing,

but where to begin?

See,

songwriting is an art,

another that comes,

straight from the heart. 

I cannot write on romance,

for I have had none.

I could write of betrayals,

but what of that?

Those I don't think I could write,

despite,

the feeling I got when I felt betrayed.

When writing a song,

you need to have chords.

You need to understand

the structures of a song

and how they all work.

I haven't even started 

to think about them,

let alone learn them!

Then there's the beat.

The beat you want your song

to have, the thing that causes you

to sway in pure bliss while listening

to it on repeat.

There are so many mechanics 

to writing a song,

but if you listen to you heart...

You will understand.
