36th Poem: Stars

I quite like stars,

those funny balls of gas

and brilliant light

shining high up in the sky.

I actually like stars a lot,
and it is not just because of Ray
and his girlfriend from Princess and the Frog.

Stars of all shapes and sizes,
all different than the rest.

I wish I could see the stars,
see them clear as day,
beautifully mysterious as night.

But...it is hard.

I live in the city,
a place full of pollution that
coats the stars in a thick fog.

That is why I love visting my cousins in Virginia.

Well, it's also because I love them and miss them,
but also because of the beautiful stars.

Even Mufasa from The Lion King
loved stars, claiming that they were past kings.

Interesting eh?

For years I have wanted a
telescope, hoping to look through its lens and discover a new world beyond the stars.

Or rather,
an unseen world,
invisible to the naked eye.

A world to escape to,
even if only for a second.

A world to relish in its beauty,
to rest in its silence as
the past kings watch over us to keep us safe.
