The summer break had finally began and suddenly you had a lot of free time on your hands. But without your friends, the Marauders, you felt quite alone. That was why it had made you so happy to receive Remus' letter in July, stating that his father had gone on a long business trip and his mother had accompanied him. He asked you and the rest of the Marauders to join him in his home. However, you were the only one who could go. James was on a vacation with the Evans family, Sirius' parents wouldn't let him go to a half-blood's house and Peter had a summer job. But since you had nothing to do, you gladly accepted his invitation.

You were incredibly tired after being up all night, running around in your (animagus) form. You entered the beautiful home of the Lupins, made some coffee and some breakfast. After pouring the hot liquid into a thermos and packing away the food into your backpack, you grabbed some blankets and headed outside. That particular morning was very chilly and foggy, but you easily managed to find the small clearing with the wooden benches. And there sat a shivering Remus in the clothes you left out for him in the forest yesterday.

He had dark circles under his eyes and his arm was slashed. You sat down next to him and wrapped a blanket around his shoulders. The corners of his mouth slightly tugged up into a small smile, but you could see that he was not okay. You poured out some coffee into plastic cups and handed one to him. Remus gladly accepted it and took sips, enjoying the warmth of the coffee heating him up from the inside.

"Is your arm okay?" you asked and searched his eyes with yours.

"It's going to be fine," he said quietly and looked away. "It's nothing."

You nodded. "Breakfast?"

Remus shook his head. "I'm not hungry."

You started to feel really bad, since nothing really seemed to cheer your friend up. Friend. As if you hadn't known that you harbored deeper feelings for him. You lay your head on his shoulder and wrapped your arms around him, being gentle and careful in order not to hurt him. He dropped his empty cup and hugged your smaller frame closer to him. You could feel his tense shoulders relax. You gently caressed his cheeks and hair, and snuggled into the crook of his neck.

"I don't ever want this moment to end," Remus said and you felt a jolt of happiness. "When you hold me like this," he continued, "I almost feel as if you were in love with me."

You raised your head and looked at him. He looked back at you with a sad smile and went on. "Don't worry, I know it's not like that between us."

You leaned in and kissed him slowly, savoring each second of yours and Remus' first kiss. Pulling away, you said, "And what if I want it to be like that?"

After putting himself through the first waves of shock, he pulled you flush against him and held you in a strong embrace for long minutes. The first rays of the sun broke through the fog and illuminated the small meadow, colouring the tress and the grass and the flowers. He sighed and a genuine smile spread out on his face - one that you saw so rarely but loved so much.

"It's a beautiful morning," he stated and kissed your hair. "What food exactly did you bring with yourself?"
