"Filthy werewolf..." sneered the boy and you turned around angrily. Your best friend, Benny Goodman grabbed your arm and laughed. "Come on, (Y/n). Let's go."

"But," you started and pulled him back, "he called you a-"

"I know what he called me. But it was my choice to reveal the truth to everyone. I figured this was going to happen. I knew the consequences," stated Benny with maddening stoicism and mild amusement.

"Excuse me, Benny, but I need to punch someone in the face," you said and started to walk away. However, he pulled you back.

"Yeah, he's an asshole, but still-"

"There's an excuse for being a werewolf, Benny," you cried, "But there's no excuse for being a total jerk!"

He only laughed and grabbed your robes tighter, pulling you with him. Being much stronger, Benny managed to drag you away from the boy that made fun of him. "Now, you were planning on going to Hogsmead, and I was planning on going to the library to study." He gently pushed you towards the entrance of Hogwarts. "Go," he said with a soft smile, "I'll be alright."

...

"She stood up for Goodman as we'd stand up for you, Remus," mused Sirius as he sat with Potter and Lupin in the Three Broomsticks, sipping butterbeer. Remus couldn't forget the way you defended the boy whom he hardly knew. He shuddered at the thought of everyone knowing his secret and unconsciously traced the scars on his face with his fingers. Even with friends like the Marauders, he wouldn't have been able to be so brave as Benny Goodman. He was also jealous of Goodman for having you. The boys guessed you were his girlfriend and that made Remus sigh in desperation. He thought he was never going to find a girl like you who could accept him for who he truly was.

"Earth to Remus," joked James, but his facial expression soon turned serious. "You okay, Moony?"

"Yeah, it's just that scene we've witnessed earlier," admitted Remus, "I can't get it out of my head."

"I think it's the girl you can't get out of your head," said Sirius with a triumphant smirk as Remus blushed a little.

"Speaking of the devil," nudged James Remus with his elbow as you entered the Three Broomsticks and sat down by yourself to an empty table. Soon a boy joined you and you seemed really irritated.

...

"Just one date, (Y/n)," whined Amos Diggory, "that's all I'm asking."

"It's not going to happen, Amos." You looked into the boy's eyes.

"Come on... I know you're single!" he cried out and many heads turned to your direction. You jumped up and said, "Oh, sorry, Amos, but I can finally see my friends sitting over there. I don't want to keep them waiting! Have a nice life!"

And with that you casually plopped down on an empty chair by the Marauders' table.

"Hi. Would you be so kind to save a damsel in distress, boys?" you asked with a neutral expression on your face. When they didn't say anything, you continued. "Mr Diggory there seems to be very determined to take me out on a date. However, if I'm completely honest, I'd rather fight a dragon than go out with him. So please bear with me for a couple of minutes while he clears out of here and I can return to the castle without being harassed. Please..."

James grinned at you and patted your shoulder. "We're your knights in shining armours."

"And also your deepest admirers for standing up for your boyfriend like that," said Sirius.

"My who?"

"Your boyfriend. Goodman."

You started laughing and seeing their confused faces, you explained the situation. "Benny is my best friend. But that's about it."

"So you're single?" asked James, winking "secretly" at Remus, who rewarded him with a discreet but painful kick under the table.

"Yeah..."

"But do you like Goodman?" asked Sirius. "Does his little... monthly problem keep you away from dating him?"

You looked puzzled. "What? No, of course not! I couldn't care less about that! Benny is like a brother to me. The reason why I don't like him that way has nothing to do with him being a werewolf!"

...

As Remus listened to you talk, he felt his insides melting and his chest being filled with warmth. He had liked you for a long time. He stole glances at you while you talked with Benny during Potions, while you concentrated on not upsetting a plant in the greenhouse, or while you chatted merrily in the Gryffindor common room. He never dared to ask you out for two reasons - one being Benny, and the other being prejudice what people held against werewolves.

"Is your friend okay?" (Y/n) asked with a shy smile as she looked at Remus.

Sirius and James grinned at each other knowingly. "Of course he is."

"I'm sorry, I zoned out..." Remus muttered with pink cheeks.

...

You had a wonderful time with the boys and eventually Remus warmed up to you as well. You liked him. Even though you only needed to take one glance at his scars to know what he was. You saw Benny's scars a million times and Remus' looked just the same. However, you decided to keep that information to yourself. Not that it bothered you, you just didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable.

James and Sirius stood up together and stated that they had some very serious business - apparently another prank to pull on some poor unsuspecting pupil - and waltzed out of the pub without any further information. "Want to head back to the castle?" you asked with a sweet smile.

"How about we take a walk before we go back?"

Your smile grew wider. "Is this a date, Mr Lupin?"

"Only if you want it to be," he replied shyly.

"I'd very much like that."

...

After an long walk and an amazing conversation, you reached the entrance. Remus grabbed your hand. "Will I see you again?"

"Of course," you said.

...

Weeks passed and the two of you went on several dates. However, you hadn't made it official yet and you didn't understand it. You met Remus under the great tree by the Black Lake and you sat down in the shade.

"(Y/n), I want you to be my girlfriend," Remus said as he took your hand in his, "but there's something you need to know about me before you answer that question."

He drew a deep breath and looked into your eyes with a strange mixture of love, hope and fear. "You need to know that I'm... I'm..."

"A werewolf?" you asked casually, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Did you really think I haven't noticed?"

Remus looked a little ashamed. "I just didn't know if you were aware of it... I haven't revealed it to many people. I thought it would might disturb you or-"

You leaned in and kissed him with enthusiasm and love. When the two of you pulled back, you caressed his cheek with your hand and smiled. "I'll be your girlfriend on one condition."

"I'm listening."

"Don't ask more stupid questions," you laughed. Remus joined in and pulled you into a strong embrace.
