Chapter XII

✽❋✽

"My dad has always been my role model, even now," Easton started, his eyes on the road, hardened, "We were both very close. After all, I was his only reminder of their love; my parents.

"You see, my mother died giving birth. Truth is, she was supposed to be barren. You could say the Luna Zeita granted them a miracle; or a curse. Depends on how you see it.

"I was her legacy, in some way. My dad was great in all aspects. A great Alpha. A great Mate. A great Father. He was the absolute best."

"He sounds like a great person, you're lucky," I said, placing my hand softly on his shoulder; comforting. It still amazed me that I could actually interact physically with Easton. That brought a comforting feeling.

"He was. The greatest. But, as all things go; my father did, too." I could hear the grief in his voice, an ice exterior to cover his true feelings. He was still grieving. How long ago was this?

"Alpha Son," Alpha Weston's third barged in, shoulders sagged, bowing.

"Gamma Lee, has my father come back?" Alpha Weston's only son asked, giving a quick glance at the third, his focus on the papers that lay over his desk.

"No, I'm afraid not, Easton." the sympathy in his voice grabbing Easton's attention. Dropping his pen with no care.

He slowly stood from his chair in the Alpha's office. "No. No." he began pleading, begging that this was a nightmare, it couldn't be real. "Please. No."

"I'm sorry."

"My father was attacked on his way back from an Alpha's meeting. Along with Sean's father. They were attacked by a pack. A full pack against an Alpha and Beta. With only their warriors to help."

That was awful. Packs usually lived in peace and harmony with each other. As members usually switch to live with their mates. Treaties were signed in alliances. Having a common threat against rogues brought them together. It was rare when a situation arises where packs fought each other. Usually, it was a mutual thing. A war between packs.

"I'm sorry to hear that," I said, my hand still on his arm. I couldn't imagine my life without my parents. I didn't know what I would do. Andre.

"Promise me something," I pleaded, my worries arising, "Raise Andre."

The car came to a sudden stop. Launching my body forward. Having no seat belt, I couldn't help but hit the dashboard.

"Ow," it actually hurt. As time passed, I couldn't help but be more and more confused as to my condition. If I was dead, why was I getting hurt?

"What do you mean raise Andre?" he stuttered, turning to face me, totally ignoring the fact that his driving had caused me shock and pain.

"That's what I said, didn't I?" I snapped, rubbing my shoulder blades. That really hurt. Was the shock that hurt more? Probably.

"What does that even mean?" he asked panicking, swinging his arms all over the place.

I saw one of his warriors getting out of the black SUV in front and started making his way over.

"I mean take care of him, as a father figure. After all, you're what? Twenty-five? You're old enough to be wise. I mean for moon's sake, you're an Alpha. It's perfect."

Easton opened his mouth to reply, but before he could, a knock came from the driver's window. Easton sigh, annoyed, and turn to roll down the window. "Yes?"

"Is everything fine?" the warrior asked, looking warily around the interior of the car, "Is there a problem?"

"Yes, everything's fine. We can continue now." Easton dismissed.

"Well, we will be arriving at the Alfe Pack territory pretty soon. That's the first stop right?"

"Yes, thank you." the warrior was a bit taken back for some reason. Was Easton not usually polite?

As soon as the warrior left and the window was closed, Easton turned to glare at me. "See what you cause?"

I gaped again, my right eye twitching, my left one joining in. The nerve.

"What's wrong with you today? Is it that time of the month. I bet it is." I muttered the last part to myself. Knowing he could hear me perfectly fine.

"I heard that!" he said, putting the car on drive.

"Good! So it's true." I said, my eyes on the road, ignoring my need to turn and look at his perfect face.

"No, it's not!"

"Sure it's not..."

My jaw was on the floor, my eyes filled with tears and my breathing ragged. All around me was a mess. Torn houses, fallen to the ground, signs of what seems to be blood all over the land. A stench of metallic all over the air. Burned flesh. Rotten Flesh.

I was suddenly overwhelmed with so many emotions. I blinked, opening my eyes I saw what once was.

The three-story house stood in front of me. Of wood and stone, as it stood strong. Alpha Alaric's house. Stone leading up to the wooden doors. All around stood house of pack members. As the owners stood outside their doors as they watched their pups play around. A bit to the right of the Alpha house; stood mine. The two-story house where I lived my 18 years of life.

Now, my house was wrecked. The walls dust. The furniture was burned. Ashes were all over the place. Somehow, the stairs were still intact, letting me upstairs

Frames that hold family pictures were broken on the floor; shattered. I resisted the need to pick the picture up, wanting to hold my parents near me. I knew it was useless. Right at the top of the staircase, to the left, was my bedroom. There on my half burnt bed, against the blue striped pillow, was my medium-sized teddy bear. Mr. Right.

You could say attachment to childhood toys ran in the family.
