I heard my phone ring
and practically
had a seizure
trying to grab it.
It was Eliza.
"Oh,
my god.
are you okay,
where are you?"
"I'm fine,
why?"
"You ran out of the apartment
and peeled out
not telling me where you were going
and then disappeared off the grid
for four hours."
"oh,
I'm sorry.
I have good news
and bad news.
the good news
is I'm staying at the library,
the bad news
is I'm quitting Frieda's."
"What?
why?"
"I got a raise at the library.
I was telling my boss
that I was quitting
and why
and she gave me her job."
"what are the benefits?"
"I get paid $20 an hour
and $25 an hour on weekends
and my family gets health insurance.
I also get to pick my hours."
"that's amazing.
Can you come home
so we can talk about this?"
"Yeah,
as soon as I quit frieda's."
"Okay,
make it fast then."
But I was too late
she had already hung up.
