Chapter 11

It was the day of the trial and Callie was really stressed. Mariana walked into their room and noticed Callie laying on her bed blankly staring at the ceiling. " Hey, how are you doing," Mariana asked while sitting on her bed. Callie sighed and said," Today I have to face Liam so honestly I am not sure how I am doing." Mariana nodded then said," I bet it is hard to face him especially after the last time you saw him." Callie peeled her eyes off of the ceiling and turned to look at Mariana and said," Yeah it is." Callie moved so now she was sitting up with her legs crossed. Mariana gave Callie a smile and said," Well no matter what happens you have a family that is here for you." " I should get ready," Callie stated while standing up avoiding Mariana's previous statement. Mariana stood up and said," Okay I will leave you to it." Callie watched Mariana leave the room and then she started getting ready. At the court house Callie sat down in her seat with the rest of the family sitting behind her. When Liam entered the room Callie could feel herself getting panicked but she was calmed down when the judge started speaking. During the trial Callie just listened and waited until it was time for her to speak. Her lawyer called her up to the stand to speak. She stood up and she noticed Liam staring at her with anger and that made her a bit more nervous to speak. " So Callie if I am correct you and Liam had a relationship for about three months," her lawyer stated. Callie looked at her moms then at the lawyer and responded," Yes that's correct." The lawyer nodded and then asked," Would you say that the sex was consensual?" Callie looked at Liam and then at each and every one of her family members contemplating what to say. Once she made up her mind she took a deep breath and said," No the sex was not consensual. He raped me." Callie started to feel herself tearing up so she bit her lip and held back her tears. About an hour later the judge said," After hearing both sides to the story about what happened has the jury reached a verdict?" One person from the jury stood up and said," Yes your honor, we have found in favor of Liam Olmstead." The judge wrapped his gavel and Callie couldn't believe it. She stood up and ran out of the court house. Brandon didn't hesitate he stood up and went after Callie. " Hey it is going to be okay," Brandon said once he reached Callie. Callie felt tears starting to roll down her cheeks and she said," Brandon you were right. They didn't believe me." Brandon put his hand on Callie back and said," I am so sorry Callie." Callie was going to respond but noticed Stef walking towards them so she just looked at her hands. "Callie are you okay my love," Stef asked once she reached them. Callie kept her eyes on her hands and shrugged her shoulders. Brandon looked at Stef and said," She is upset about the trial." Stef sighed and pulled Callie into a hug and said," Callie if it were up to me I would have saw it your way." Callie muttered," Thanks." Callie pulled out of the hug and said," Can we go home now? I really don't want to be here anymore." " Sure," Stef said while feeling bad for Callie. Later on that day Stef received a call from Brandon's social worker saying that they found his biological father. "Brandon can we have a word with you," Lena said after dinner. Jude stopped and was unsure of what was happening. Stef noticed that Jude stopped and she said," This will only take a minute Jude." Jude looked over to Brandon for reassurance and Brandon responded with a nod. Jude didn't say anything he just went upstairs. Once Jude left Brandon turned to face Stef and Lena and asked," So what do you need to talk to me about?" Lena looked at Stef and Stef answered," Well earlier today I received a call from your social worker and they found Robert Quinn." Brandon wasn't sure how to react, he was going through so many emotions. " So is he going to sign the abandonment papers," Brandon asked still trying to figure out how to feel about this. Stef put her hands in her front pockets and said," Robert wants you to come over to his house to meet him and then he will decide what he wants to do from there." Brandon scoffed and said,"No, there is no way I am doing that to Jude. He is the person who left me and now he wants to meet me?" "Brandon I understand that you are upset-" Lena started but Brandon interrupted," Upset? I am pissed that he can't just sign the papers and I don't have to see him again!" With that Brandon stormed off and went up to his room. " I feel bad for him, he is a great kid and doesn't deserve this," Lena said once Brandon left the room. Stef walked over to the living room and sat on the couch and said," I know but there isn't much we can do about it." Lena looked over at Stef and then back at the stairs and said," I know and that's the sad part." Stef patted the spot next to her and Lena obliged and sat next to Stef. Stef wrapped her arm around Lena and kissed her head and said," These kids have been through a lot these past few weeks and I love that you care but these decisions they need to make for themselves." Lena sighed and said," I know." Lena ran her hands through her hair and closed her eyes, she felt bad for both Brandon and Callie and it stressed her out that she couldn't do much about it. Stef started to stand up and she said," Come on love let's go to bed." Lena stood up and the two of them went to bed. Brandon was sitting in his room staring off into space when he heard a knock at the door. He looked at the door and he noticed Jude walking in. " Hey Jude," Brandon said once Jude came into the room. Jude walked in further and asked," What did Stef and Lena want to talk to you about." Brandon sighed and motioned for Jude to sit next to him. When Jude sat down Brandon said," They found my biological father, Robert Quinn." Jude was hurt and afraid that Brandon might not want to get adopted with him because of this. Brandon noticed Jude's sudden silence an he said," Jude you know that us not having the same fathers changes nothing. I am you brother and you are mine no matter what, okay?" Jude nodded and said," I just don't want to lose my favorite big brother." Brandon smiled and said," Favorite? I thought that was Jesus." Jude grew a smile and said," No you are always my favorite." " Good because I thought I had some competition," Brandon said while messing up Jude's hair. Jude giggled and then Brandon started tickling him. Both boys erupted into laughter. Jude was laughing so hard he could barely say," Stop it!" Brandon stopped for a second and said," What was that Jude? Should I continue." With that Brandon went back to tickling Jude. " P-please stop," Jude said in between his laughs. After a few more seconds of tickling Brandon pulled away and both their laughter slowly came to an end but their smiles never went away. " Alright bud you should get to bed," Brandon said after Jude stopped laughing. Jude gave Brandon a hug and said," Night Brandon." Brandon smiled bigger and said," Good night Jude love you." Jude got off the bed and said," I love you too." With that Jude left and Brandon laid down and drifted off to sleep. The next day Brandon went down to breakfast. It was only Lena and Stef in the kitchen at the time so Brandon just chose a random spot and sat down.  Stef looked over at Brandon and said," Morning Brandon." Brandon looked over towards Stef and answered," Hey." " So today I was thinking we could see when Robert wants to meet you," Stef said while placing her coffee mug on the table. Brandon felt anger rush over him and he said," I never said that I would meet him." Stef shook her head and said," You don't really have a choice." " Plus don't you want to see who this Robert Quinn is," Lena added trying to lighten up the mood. Brandon was irritated but he didn't want to ruin his mood so he said," Only if Jude is okay with it." After Brandon said that Mariana came and sat down next to Brandon. A few minutes later Jesus came down followed by Jude. When Jude sat down Brandon asked him," Jude?" Jude looked at Brandon and said," Yeah?" " How would you feel if I went and visited Robert Quinn," Brandon said which seemed to spark some interest between the three kids. Jude looked at his hands and then at Brandon and said," I think it would be fine." Mariana now felt the need to ask her question," Wait they found your biological dad?" Brandon nodded and Stef said," I received a call about it yesterday." Jesus joined the conversation," How do you feel about that?" Brandon shrugged and said," I really don't know how to feel about this." Jesus was going to respond but he heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Everyone but Lena turned to look and they saw Callie, her hair was messy and her eyes were puffy and red from crying. Callie didn't acknowledge anyone in the room, she just plopped down in an empty seat and looked at her hands. Lena turned around and noticed Callie and she said," Hey Callie would you like something to eat?" Callie didn't look up at all she just continued to stare at her hands with no facial expression. Mariana looked over at them and mouthed," The trial." The others looked at each other and Mariana said to Callie," So after we eat do you want to go shopping?" Nothing. No response from Callie, she was too upset and hurt that she felt like she didn't care what anyone says. Lena turned off the stove and said," Food is done." Everyone got themselves a plate and Jesus took the liberty to get Callie's plate. He sat it in front of her and said," Here you need to eat." Brandon felt bad for Callie and he didn't know how to get her to talk or even respond in that matter. Then Brandon thought that maybe telling her about Robert might help so he said," They found Robert Quinn." Callie heard but she didn't feel like responding. " And they are also going to make me visit him. Stupid huh," Brandon continued hoping for her to say anything. Callie pushed her plate away from her and left the table. When Callie left Jesus asked," What's up with her?" Mariana looked behind her and then back at Jesus and said," She has been like that ever since last night." Stef felt bad for her daughter and she said," Okay since Callie is really upset let's not mention the trial or anything depressing." The kids nodded and Lena grabbed Callie's still full plate and said," Well I guess I will save this for her for later." " Will Callie be okay," Jude asked. Stef nodded and said," Yeah bud, Callie just needs some time to get over this."
