~The Journal Entry of Lucas~

I went to my study, to sign a few contracts, then exited to make sure the carriage was suitable for Greyson and Hazel.

I was about to approach them when Hazel stopped and began talking to the maid that attended to her.

"I swear ma'm I haven't touched it,"

My ears perked up and they finished their little conversation, then the maid was dismissed.

I then was about to emerge once more, and though I shouldn't have, I listened in to Hazel and Grey's conversation. My blood boiled when she blushed at his compliment.

This beautiful creature was meant to be mine, and she wouldn't fall prey to this friend of her's.

I had to find grandmother's ring. It was left for Ben, but I could not let this woman slip through my hands.

I found Ben in his study across the hall from my study.
I knocked on the door, and opened it a few seconds later.
Ben sat in his chair, looking thoughtfully at the ring I ventured in to get.

" Ben?" I asked as he broke his intense thought and stare at the ring.

"Yes, Lucas?"

"I have a serious question for you," I said with a serious face.

"Whatever is it?" My brother asked suddenly concerned.

"I need grandmother's ring, I need the ring for Hazel."

He looked mortified. And he put the ring in his pocket.

"You cannot be marrying her so soon, that is the definition of impulsive," he looked down "I cannot give you the ring or my blessing."

I was shocked, my little brother had never been cruel one day in his life, I had to figure out what was matter with him.

"Surely you cannot keep the ring from me, I have found the woman I will marry, and I shall marry her if I please."

"What if that is not what she wants?" He asked tears in his eyes "I will not give you the ring. It was one of the only things I received when grandfather and grandmother died, the ring and half the fortune. You received this manor and the other half of the fortune. I am going to give this ring to the girl I marry, it is not for you."

I was taken aback at his harsh words.

"Why do you scar me with your harsh words?" I said my voice slightly raising in an authoritative manner.

"Maybe because you're not the only one who loves her!" He said yelling, tears in his eyes. I looked at him for a moment, and he ran out of the room.

I was left in silence.

My little brother of 19 fancied the girl I was going to marry? The girl who obviously not fancied him back. How preposterous.

I was going to get the ring, and I was going to get the girl.
