Is It Me (Haikyuu x Reader)

-Wednesday-

"My grades are failing again." you break the silence that was between you and the other four third years while you are walking to school.

"Again?"

"Yes, Mattsun. Again! Why is it such a big surprise? I mean ever since my parents left, my grades really failed. The only time I try on my grades is when something very important is coming up."

"Like the tests that are coming up?"

"Correct Makki. Wait, we have tests coming up?"

"Yea, those tests that you take to see how good you are doing in the subjects."

"Oh, I forgot about that." you tap your chin slightly.

"Hey Trashcan! Don't we have a practice match today?"

"When are you going to stop calling me 'Trashcan'?" Oikawa pouts behind you.

"When Iwa-chan and I actually start liking you. That would be a long time from now." you tease him.

"So mean!"

"Do we have a practice match or not?"

"Yea, with a college team." Oikawa tells you.

"Cool." you look at Iwaizumi "Why are you so quiet?" you nudge his side.

"I don't know. I guess I'm just quiet today."

"Right..." you continue to walk in silence. The thoughts in your head took over. "Oikawa?" you ask and the said male turns around to face you. "When we graduate and leave high school. You're going to make Yahaba captain, right?" you twirl your fingers.

"That's what I'm thinking. Why?"

"Just thinking about something." you look down at your shoes and avoid looking up. If you lose the Spring High Tournaments you will not be able to play volleyball anymore in high school. Oikawa wasn't the only one who was invited to Shiratorizawa, you were too. You could've passed the test that allowed you to enter that school. You decided not to take the test. You instead went to the same school as your other friends. The dream that you want to accomplish is going to nationals. If you did attend Shiratorizawa, you would've gone to nationals many times already. Were you really doubting coming to Aoba Johsai now?

"Thank you for the game!" the college team comes inside of the gym. Irihata gestures the team to gather around and introduce themselves.

"Oikawa you will be their setter. Yahaba you'll be on our side. (y/n) you'll be in charge." the coach says and all three of you nod. Everyone gets into positions and begins to stretch a bit.  You gesture for the team to gather around.

"We all know how Oikawa is. He'll adapt to their spikes easily. Yahaba and Watari we're counting on you. Mattsun, I'll help you block. Makki, we got the spikes. Kindaichi and Kunimi you'll be swapped out. Kindaichi, you'll be with us first." you tell the team and they nod.

The whistle blows and you serve. You look dead in the eyes of Oikawa and he smirks. You do a float serve and the ball heads straight for the libero. He receives it sending it straight back to your side of the net.

"Chance ball!" Watari yells and receives the ball from Yahaba.

"Iwaizumi-san!" he says and Iwa-chan spikes the ball to the other side of the net getting your team a point.

"That was great Yahaba!" you high five him.

"Thank you (y/n)-san." he smiles brightly. You head to the back ready to serve again.

After two spikes from the other team's side, Oikawa quickly got used to their spikes. Now it's as if he's been with them for a long time. Oikawa sets the ball to one guy and you jump up to block it. The friction hits your hand and the ball lands on the other side of the court. You too adapted to their spikes allowing you to easily block them. You smirk at Oikawa and he gives you a pissed look.

The game ended and you took the win with your team. "That was great guys, you all did amazing!" you happily say as the college team leaves.

"Yea I actually think we just came up with a new move, not wanting to." Iwaizumi says.

"Yea, I have no idea how I will be able to repeat that." you smile sheepishly.

"That was a great game everyone. Oikawa, as always, you adapted to their spikes very easily. (y/n), you learned their spikes, so that gave you an advantage of blocking better. Yahaba, your sets are getting better as time passes. Kindaichi and Kunimi, your blocks and spikes were great. Same told to you Iwaizumi. This practice match allowed me to see what you all need to work on and what you are certainly getting better at. I would like to congratulate you all on that. Before I forget, yesterday I received a call from a coach in Tokyo. We have been invited to a Summer Training Camp, that will last a week and will be held in Tokyo. There we will have volleyball matches with a variety of teams from Tokyo. I am not sure if I will accept or not, I told the coach to wait for an exact answer before any assumptions begin."

"No! Please coach Irihata! We need to go! It will improve our skills and get us ready for the Spring High Playoffs. This is a great chance for us to accept. We need to go. I don't care if we are ranked number four in the prefecture. No team is perfect. The more we practice the better we get. Then, we can beat Shiratorizawa and go to nationals." you tried so hard not to stutter and it worked. Honestly, the only reason you wanted to be there is to see your old team again. Yes, you needed practice, not to mention you had to pass a test to go, but you were determined to go no matter what.

"I'm assuming this isn't just about enhancing your skills. If we're going to go, I want the whole team there. So you better get those grades up, you hear me (y/n)." Irihata smiles at you and you nod in return.

"Really?! Yes, I definitely will! Thank you so much!" you clap happily.

"Alright, head home and rest." Irihata said as the whole team nodded and went to the locker rooms.

"You seem like you really want to go."

"I have my reasons." you walk towards the girls' locker room leaving Iwaizumi behind you.

You take out your water bottle from your bag and begin to drink it. "Hey, so what happened with your girlfriend?" Iwaizumi directs to Oikawa. You almost choke on your drink and quickly remove the bottle from your mouth. You continue to cough violently and laugh at the same time. Your cheeks become sore and you finally catch your breath. You couldn't help but keep laughing at the startled faces the two males were giving you.

"You had a girlfriend?" you choke out and rub your stomach trying to free the pain.

"Yea, but she broke up with me." Oikawa simply says and you begin to laugh even louder.

"Why was I not aware of this?" you wipe the tears from your eyes and try to catch your breath.

"That's not the bad thing. Takeru-kun was with me and he pointed it out when Kageyama was right there."

"What the hell Oikawa? Why didn't you tell me?" You ask him playfully.

"I didn't think you needed to know. I knew it wasn't going to last anyways but I still went along with it. Why? Do you want to date me too now?" Oikawa smirks looking at you.

"Ew gross I should've never asked." You laugh and mock him.
