AJ's Song

(I thought it would be sweet if AJ did something sweet for Slade (Crimson595) so here we go)

AJ gulped as he walked into the recording studio. To Say that he was nervous was an understatement. He was right out terrified. He had written a whole song about his relationship with Slade, and he was about to record it. Now, in all honesty, AJ's relationship wasn't a very strong one. Not like the one Slade had with his twin brother, Conner.

And even though he smiled when he saw his Dad and brother together, behind that smile was jealously and sadness. Sadness that he didn't have that strong of a bond with Slade. It was hard enough when AJ had almost gotten to that point in the relationship, and then somehow, someway, they were back fighting again, back on square one: Distant Family Members.

AJ thought that if he truly showed his father how he felt about him, it would help his relationship big time. But now that the day to record the song was actually here, he was flat out scared.

"Alright AJ," Cooper stated. "Are you ready to record?"

Nodding, AJ gulped once more and went inside the recording booth, then went up to the microphone.

"I-I think so."

Cooper must've noticed how nervous AJ was because he stopped the music that was the intro to the song. "Hey, you okay?"

Looking at the chipmunk in the control booth with fearful eyes, AJ shook his head. "N-No. Cooper, I am so scared. What if my Dad doesn't like it, or I mess up the words and it seems that I'm complaining about him?"

"Don't you do that anyways?"

"Yes-...I mean no...well...when I'm mad I do, but Cooper..."

Sighing, AJ trailed off, frowning as he looked down at the floor of the recording booth.

"But what, AJ?"

"It's just... I've never really been close with my Dad, and I see my brother with him all the time, getting lots of love, and I don't know...I just...wish I knew what that felt like...I don't want to blow this...it may be the only chance I get to really connect with him..."

Nodding, Cooper sighed and moved his hand away from the play button. "Alright, AJ. Just take a breather. We'll start whenever you're ready. We both will stay here all night if that's how long you need."

Smiling a little, AJ nodded. "Thanks, Cooper..."

It didn't take all night, but with a glass of water, and a few breathing exercises, AJ looked at Cooper and nodded, indicating that he was ready.

"Alright, recording for "Watching You" by AJ Seville starts...now." And with that, Cooper pressed the play button and leaned back in his chair.

Taking a deep breath, AJ waited for his cue.

[Alvin Jr]

Driving through town,
Just my Dad and me,
With a happy meal in my booster seat,
Knowing that I couldn't have the toy til my nuggets were gone,

A green traffic light turned straight to red,
He hitched the brakes and mumbled under his breath
My fries went a flying,
And my orange drink covered my lap,

Well then his four year old said a four letter word,
It started with S and he was concerned,
So he said "Son, now where'd you learn to talk like that?"
I said,

"I've been Watching You Dad,
Ain't that cool?
I'm your buckaroo,
I wanna be like you,
And eat all my food,
And grow as tall as you are,
We got cowboy boots,
And camo pants,
Yeah, we're just alike,
Hey, ain't we Dad?
I wanna do,
Everything you do,
So I've been Watching You."

We got back home and he went to the barn,
He bowed his head,
And he prayed real hard,
Said,
"Lord please help me, help my stupid self..."

Bedside later that night,
He turned on my Scooby-Doo nightlight,
I crawled out of bed,
And I got down on my knees,

I closed my little eyes,
And folded my little hands,
Talking to God like I was talking to a friend,
And he said, "Son, now where'd you learn to pray like that?"
I said,

"I've been Watching You Dad,
Ain't that cool?
I'm your Buckaroo,
I wanna be like you,
And eat all my food,
And grow as tall as you are,
We like fixing things,
And holding Daddy's hand,
Yeah, we're just alike,
Hey, ain't we Dad?
I wanna do,
Everything you do,
So I've been Watching You."

With tears in his eyes,
He wrapped me in a hug
And said,
"My little bear is growing up."
And I said,
"But when I'm big,
I'll still know what to do..."

"Cause I've been Watching You Dad,
Ain't that cool?
I'm your buckaroo,
I wanna be like you,
And eat my food,
And grow as tall as you are,
Then I'll be strong as Superman,
We'll be just alike,
Hey, won't we Dad,
When I can do,
Everything you do,
Cause I've been Watching You."

Hey yeah...

Ooohh..."

When he finished, AJ looked at Cooper.

"D-Do you think he'll like it?"

Smiling, Cooper nodded.

"He'll be so proud of you, AJ."

With a smile on his face, AJ walked out of the recording booth, and the room.
