I tried holding back tears. But I couldn't. I was weak.

"Y/N, I am so sorry. I tried, okay? But we couldn't risk that happening again—"

"It's fine, mom, I'll be okay." I assured her before going back inside.

"You'll leave tomorrow morning," She told me.

I nodded, waiting for her to leave before calling Gruff.

"Can you get my luggage from the top cabinet?" I ordered him gently.

"So you're really gonna do this?" He asks, flying up to the top cabinet and pulling my gray luggage out.

"I have no choice do I?" I replied, grabbing some clothes from my closet and folding them neatly. Gruff flew around the room, grabbing whatever necessity I was gonna need and finding a place for them in my bag.

Half an hour later, we finished packing. I zipped up the luggage and placed it beside my bed, when I noticed the picture frame on my table.

Mom was holding my small figure in her arms while she lay down on the hospital bed, a hug grin on her face. Dad was seated in a chair beside her, caressing my small head in his hand, and he too, had a smile.

I looked at the picture.

I realized that I really didn't want to go. I wanted to stay here and be with them. But I couldn't. I knew that within another few days, they would be hurt again. There was a monster living inside of me—destroying anything that it could while it had control over my body.

"Gruff?" I called, spotting his figure on the top shelf.

"Yeah?"

"What will happen if the demon leaves my body? Will you leave too?" I asked him out of curiosity.

"I'll have to leave, Y/N. But this is your peculiarity, and it's your choice whether you want us to stay or not." He explained, yawning afterwards.

"Okay." I lay down on my bed, beginning to fall asleep again.

It was lunchtime by the time I woke up, and Gruff wasn't there on his usual spot.

"I should probably get something to eat," I whispered to myself before getting up to fix my hair.

I make my way down the stairs, seeing mom at the stove as the smell of soup filled my nose. Dad was probably at work.

"Y/N! You haven't eaten breakfast, are you hungry?" She asks me, turning away from the stove with a bowl in her hand, gently placing it on the table.

"Kind of," I plastered a smile across my face, and it was more forced than ever.

After eating, I took a bath then went back upstairs to my room. Gruff gladly exits the room while I changed. I'm so glad he respects my privacy. I finished and sat down on my dresser, grabbing my mascara and applying just one coat of it to my lashes, before tossing my makeup bag in my luggage.

I exited my room and looked for Gruff. I found him on the sofa next to my mother and I almost laughed because she had no idea that one my friends was watching television with her. I eyed him and he noticed me, getting up.

"I'm gonna go for a walk, mom." I told her and she looks at me with a smile.

"Be careful and take care, okay?"

"Of course,"
