Gruff stayed beside me as we walked through the park. It was serene and I've never felt more relaxed before.
I reached for my phone in the pocket of my jeans and looked for Jake's number. I find it quickly and called him.
"What're you doing?" Gruff asks, his eyes fixated on the device that I brought up to my ear.
"Calling Jake," I replied, impatiently waiting for him to pick up.
"Hi, Y/N." Jake greeted cheerfully, although he seemed quite tired.
"Hey, you okay? You sound tired. I hope I'm not interrupting a class,"
"No, no, it's fine. I'm fine. I'm at lunch."
"Okay," I replied, not knowing what to say next. "What's up? Why'd you call? Is everything okay?"
"I'm—I don't even know. My parents are sending me away tomorrow morning, and they said you'd be going with me." I swallowed the lump in my throat as Gruff patted my back softly, hoping that I won't cry.
"I know, Y/N. They called me this morning."
"Why, Jake? Why did I have to be like this?" I asked him, but I wasnt expecting an answer. No one knew why I had to be like this.
"No, don't cry," He sighed, "The good thing is, they're sending you to Miss Peregrine."
I gasped softly as my tears stopped dropping.
"The one you told me in your stories? Are you serious?" I began to smile, but it wasnt very genuine. Something inside me didn't like that thought.
"Yeah, you get to meet everyone." I could hear the smile in his voice. "I've gotta go. I'll see you later,"
"Bye."

It was the next morning.
The morning where I was to leave my parents, my friends, my home. I wasn't ready.
I thought about what Jake had said about the home where the peculiar children lived, and eventually, where I would be living. The children had special abilities. Apparently, I had one too but I didn't think turning into a monster was one. If it was, then it's the worst peculiarity.
I dragged my luggage out the front door where my parents were waiting.
"Take care, Y/N." My mom smiled, tears falling from her eyes as she hugged me tightly. Jake stood there awkwardly in front of his car, looking at us.
"We'll miss you." Dad wraps his arms around me gently. "Look after her, Jake. For as long as you can." He adds, pulling apart from our hug as he eyed Jake.
"Of course," Jake smiles. I took my luggage as he opened the trunk and I placed it inside, before taking a seat at the front. He enters the driver's seat moments later and slips the key in.
"We love you Y/N!"
And that was the last time I heard my parents speak.
