"That was too close." Gruff comments as make our way out of the house's area.

"He almost kissed me for bird's sake! What makes him think he could do that? He hardly knows me," I told him. I was enraged by Enoch's sudden gesture, but I found it best to keep it from showing. I didn't want to be seen as a grumpy person like he was.

Gruff sighs as we took the path to the town. Some of the buildings I had recognized from the present, but there were more unfamiliar ones.

"Hey look, Gruff." I called, pointing to the hotel that me and Jake passed by yesterday. "The hotel almost looks like a different building. Why don't we go check it out?"

"I don't think we should, Y/N."

"Why not?" I teased, getting closer to the building.

"We're in 1943. I don't think it's a hotel yet." Gruff states, his eyes clouded with concern. I get that he was trying to protect me, but I was a rebellious teenager who only wanted to explore.

"Maybe. Let's just take a peek."

"We shouldn't."

"Please?"

"Fine, let's go. Only for a minute." I nodded slowly entering the building.

Immediately, everyone's eyes dart to me suspiciously. The majority of them were male, and they either had a pipe or a glass of beer in their hands.

Then it hit me.

This was a pub, not a hotel.

I begin to panic, but I didn't exit the door.

"And who are you?" I turned to my side and saw a man who looked to be in his late 50s. He was dressed in a long-sleeved button up shirt, blue trousers and his facial features were prominent as he took the pipe out his mouth, a whiff of smoke exiting.

"I—"

"An American spy, perhaps." An older man interrupts, his brows furrowed. I look over to my side to see Gruff already ready to run.

I shook my head confusingly. "What are you saying? I'm from here—"

"Your American accent says otherwise," He laughs as a figure appears from behind him. "Get rid of her." The figure lifts me and pins me to the wall as his other fist prepared to collide with my face.

"Let go of me, you creeps!" I yelled as I looked down on my hands.

Claws.

The last thing I saw was Gruff panicking, but he only stayed there, not stopping it as soon as possible. Then there it was—I lost control of my body once again and I saw nothing except darkness.

A few moments later, Gruff came into view. I only saw him, and nothing else.

I almost wanted to kill myself at that moment. It just kept happening. Next thing I know, everyone in the home would be killed.

I never wanted this.

I only wanted to live a normal life back in Florida.

"Y/N, breathe. Inhale, exhale." He started.

"Don't let it control you,"

As soon as the words leaves his lips, I immediately snap back to reality and the demon leaves.

I opened my eyes, taking in the scene in front of me.

The place was a mess—broken plates and glasses, tables were snapped in half and the walls were scratched.

Everyone had left and I felt relieved, but I looked down in front of me.

Two figures laid there, their lifeless bodies' wounds were bleeding all over the floor.

"Y/N." Gruff calls, his eyes darting to the corpses on the ground then to me. I was terrified—terrified of the demon's abilities and what it could've done that was worse. It could've killed not only two people, but everyone.

"It's okay, it's okay," He repeated. I brought my hands up to my mouth and tears started pouring out of my eyes as I looked at him in disbelief.

"I'm so sorry I didn't stop you sooner." Gruff said when I finally started to regain my composure.

"You should have, Gruff! I saw you, you just stood there and looked at me with no emotion at all. Now I killed two people and they must all think I'm a fucking monster!" I yelled as I ran out the door.

I reached the home, tears still streaming down my cheeks as I looked at the note plastered on the front door's frame.

"We went out for a walk. Be back before lunch. -Jake"

My vision was blurry, but I was able to read it. I opened the door forcefully and ran upstairs to my bedroom where I sobbed loudly, since no one was going to hear me anyway.

Enoch's POV

The front door opened. The footsteps got louder, then a bedroom door closed.

It couldn't be any of the annoying children. They were out for a walk, so it must've been Y/N who returned.

I placed my scalpel down the work table and exited by room quietly. She was sobbing—that was for sure.

I made my way through the corridor, being careful not to step on any of the creaky floor boards.

Her bedroom door was slightly open but I pushed it open by accident.

Damn you, clumsy little shit.

Y/N was there on top of her bed; her knees curled up to her chest as she cried into her hands. She hears the noise, looking up at me in confusion, then rage.

"What's up with you?" I asked before she could say anything.

"The a-answer isn't any of your business. L-leave. Now." She stuttered. I ignored her statement as I stepped inside.

"Not until you tell me what happened."

Silence. Then another sob.

Y/N looked up at me in disbelief, as if to say 'leave me alone, it's none of your business.'

"I killed people, Enoch! I killed them because I'm a monster! I'm a monster, I'm a monster," She repeated over and over until I put my hand on her shoulder. I don't know why I did—but Y/N acknowledged the startling gesture and stared at me in confusion once again. I sat beside her as she shook her head.

"Now please. Leave me alone." Y/N pleaded.

"I'm not leaving until you're okay." I told her firmly and I felt her hug me as she buried her head into my chest. I was startled, but I hugged her back, a little hesitant.

I woke up to the sound of children's voices. I tried to remove the hand from under Y/N's neck where I used it to pull her closer. I stood up and kissed the top of her head before I stepped out of her room.
