Chapter 20

"Don't you just hate Mondays?"

"Uh...why are you here again?" I inquired, blinking a few times to make sure I wasn't seeing things. It was Monday morning and we were just eating breakfast. The doorbell started ringing repeatedly, so naturally, I answered the door. I'm not exactly sure why this certain dark haired and blue eyed boy is here. I mean, he did say good morning and all, but I just kind of got lost - in the color of his eyes, mostly.

"Fellows told me you needed a ride," Andrew replied, whilst scratching his neck. He was focusing on the ground, really. I bet he didn't even want to be here.

I sighed, a bit disappointed. I understand now, why Drew is here. Last Saturday, Charlie actually had a reason for being at the house. I set that day to be his and Penny's first date. Zeke didn't really have a reason, apart from boredom. We ended up watching a chick flick at home. As shocking as it was, he suggested and insisted on it. Zeke was a bit of a sook. It wasn't the other way around, go figure. Mom was more than a little giddy by all of this, while Dad wanted get the shotgun out. He didn't want his daughters dating, that was for sure. "Oh, okay then. Do you wanna come inside?"

He nodded and said, "Sure."

I let him in and rushed eating the rest of my food. I quickly sprayed some perfume on and left the house. I had to, or else Dad would've kicked Drew out the door faster than you can say 'go fish'. Drew led me to a white...Range Rover. I don't know a lot about cars, but I'm pretty sure those cost a fortune. Maybe I should be a hell of a lot more careful. Who knows how much I'd have to pay if I scratched it's paint?

"So the challenge..." Drew trailed off, looking straight at the road.

"What challenge?" I asked, my eyebrows dipping down a notch.

"The pageant," he stated as he glanced at me from the corner of his eye.

"Probably not gonna win it."

"And why not?"

"Because I'm not exactly nice enough to win that sort of thing."

"What? You wouldn't hurt a fly," Drew insisted and it earned a scoff from me.

I wanted to tell him that Macy would probably be a more appropriate winner than me, but I knew that he didn't know me well enough to know that either. So instead, I settled for one simple word. "Sure."

After thanking Andrew for the unnecessary car ride, I speed-walked all the way to my locker. Let's face it, Drew's car is an eye-catcher and that's not something I want to be a part of. I don't need some silly gossip following me around. Zen, that's what I want my life to be. I want it to be simple and clear of any drama. I want it to go with the flow. Well...as Zen as it can be with Cindy and Penny in my life.

Making my way to one of the labs, I find myself talking to Mr Corby. Per usual, he gave light to the situation were all in - the fact that we were experiencing yet another notorious Monday. We chatted about the weather and how our day has been so far - the generic - afterwards. When we entered the room, he told me that we'll be having a class outside. It made my day. Until the assembly, though.

The assembly before lunch is when they would announce the winner of the first challenge. I didn't bother with that, maybe I'll try harder on next challenge instead. The nice department exactly my thing, after all. As of now, I was sitting next to Zeke and my sister again. Of course, this time around, Zeke and I are able to conjure an unforced conversation with genuine smiles and real goofy grins. Given that we still exchange insults more often than not, it had me entertained for the entirity of the assembly.
