Poem #1: How To Love Written By: Me
When you look at me
What do you see?
A tall dark skinned hijabi who tries to fit in confidently
But on the inside?
There's something I could no longer hide
And that is the battle that I face daily
You see, I fit under a catergory
A notion that people preconceive
But do they even care to know the real me?
To find out who I am and what my religion truly means
Or do they see me as I a warning sign "with caution you may proceed"
Constant stares with question marks in their eyes
Am I a human being or someone they despise?
Must I wear this label on my sleeve just so you could treat me like the enemy?
If we all come together only then could you see that you and me, we ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS
We may not be related by blood but we are brothers and sisters of humanity
We are all citizens of this society
So can we please try to coexist peacefully?
Let's put the hate aside and learn how to love
Just like Nelson Mandela had said
"No one is born hating another human being because of the colour of his skin, or his background or his religion. People must learn to HATE and if they can learn to hate then they could be taught to LOVE. For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."

You call me a terrorist because of what I believe
And you think this scarf around my head defines me
But let me give you the knowledge you so obviously need
I sir am no terrorist, I'm just your fellow human being
You think my religion preaches hate but if you cared to investigate then you would see that we are peace loving people
Not the monsters on your tv
So why are you so afraid of us being a part of this country?
Isn't America the home of the brave?
And the land of the free?
You say that you want to make America "Great Again"
But the thing that already makes us great is our unique diversity.
