I stared through the cover at the sleeping girl. The last thing I expected on this mission was to find a Stray. No one in recent years had lasted more than a few days on our abandoned home world. This girl had been here on Muina for weeks. She looked so fragile. How had she survived?
My squadmate and best friend informed that despite being slightly malnourished, she was in generally good health. She would be quarantined at KOTIS Academy Medbay until a full battery had been completed and she was given the Interface. I winced, knowing that it would be painful for her at this age. My people receive the injection soon after birth, and the Interface grows and adapts alongside a child's developing brain. I wondered where she'd come from. Stray was the label given to individuals who had accidentally passed through a Gate of the Ena and were transported from foreign worlds. Strays from known worlds were sent back. She hadn't responded to any of the languages from those worlds though.

I turned away and headed out to help the scientists bring scanning equipment back in. They only had a few hours allotted to gather any data on the Dhura which scanners had indicated had passed by the area. No one had come back from a Dhura encounter, making the presence of this girl a mystery. My various Sight abilities had shown me much about her time spent in the village, but there were still questions she'd need to answer. I would have to find out more once language wasn't such a barrier. And she most certainly needed to learn Taren to integrate into our society. I had a very strong sense from Sight Sight that she would never return to her home world. That same sense warned me that she was going to change our world.
