• Chapter 24 •
Renn
I wake up to a tickling sensation on my arm. My eyes open to see Luke running his fingers lightly along my whole left arm.
"Morning," he says, smiling.
"Good morning," I say.
"How'd you sleep?"
"Perfectly. You?"
"Close to perfect. My wrist is killing me."
I frown, looking at our connected wrists.
"Don't worry though, hopefully we'll be let go," says Luke.
"You go on tour soon," I say, frowning.
"I know I-"
"RISE AND DON'T GRIND LOVE BIRDS!" Jana rushes in, and I nearly lose it. But Jana's my best friend, so it's okay. Plus, she pays half the rent.
"We weren't grinding anyway," I say.
"I know, but I was going to close my eyes just in case," says Jana.
"Can we be unlocked?" Luke asks.
"Yeah, only when you guys need to be alone and stuff and shower you, know that etc stuff," says Jana.
Fun fact: When Jana is too lazy to explain, she uses the abbreviation 'etc' and actually pronounces it the way it looks. Ett-uh-ka.
"Fine by me," says Luke, smiling at me.
"Ew, I smell STD's. Keep it PG!" Jana exclaims, unlocking us.
After Luke and I both shower, we're locked together again, and Jana has a day shift again. She's been working her butt off for a new laptop.
Luke sits down next to me, as I find something to watch, but he takes the remote from me.
"Excuse me Sir, I believe I was looking," I say, laughing.
"Sorry ma'am, I have a request," says Luke.
"What is it?"
"Let's not watch something. Let's talk."
"Um... okay?"
Luke turns the tv off and faces me. I sit between his long legs. "What do you want to talk about?" I ask.
"Hm... tell me about your granddad."
"Um, okay."
*Flashback*
"Renn, come. Let me put some music on and I'll teach you how to dance," says Granddad.
"I don't like dancing," I say.
"Oh don't say that, dancing is just like art. You make pictures in the way you move."
Granddad plays a record, and it's an upbeat jazz song. He takes my small hands in his and tells me to step on his feet. I am being twirled around, pushed and pulled gracefully around Granddad's living room. We go in beat of the music, and once the doorbell rings, we stop.
"Dad? Renn has a soccer game today," I hear my mum from the front door. I run over to the door to open it. Granddad stops the music.
"Granddad was teaching me how to dance," I say.
"He was? I thought he'd never dance again," says Mum.
"Oh it was nothing. Say, does my own daughter still have the moves?" says Granddad, holding his hand out for my mum to take.
