Looking out through my bedroom window, I couldn't help but release a heavy sigh. I watched as the light breeze blew against the tree causing the leaves to rustle around. The birds chirps indicating it was a brand new day. A brand new day with the same daily routine all over again. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in before exhaling. The quietness was quite soothing. I could only hear the sounds of nature.

I heard tiny footsteps coming up behind me and a small smile rose to my face knowing it was my little brother, Ethan. I opened my eyes and turned besides me to see he was already dressed for school.

He was only 12 years old in the 9th grade and yes, he skipped a few grades. He had his white shirt tucked into his jeans and his light brown hair combed back causing his turquoise eyes to pop out which was also my eye color.

He stood next to me and looked out the window with me. "Freya," he called.

I hummed in response and stood behind him before wrapping him in a hug. "I don't want to go to school today," his voice came out soft. I let out a sigh knowing why. "I know. I don't either but we have too. I promise, after I graduate this year, we can officially run away from this place and it would just be the two of us. I only have 2 months left," I tried to explain.

His shoulders slouched down and I knew he was sad, "Two months can be a long time," he mumbled. I kissed the top of his head, "I promised to look after you no matter what and that is what I will continue doing. Don't worry, we're almost there," I sighed.

Nodding his head, he continued to look out the window. Ethan wanted to leave this dump just as much as I wanted to leave. Nothing was wrong with the place. It was just the people we are surrounded by.

Ethan was born with the gift of wisdom. He is much more smarter than he lets on. This kid had the chance to attend NYU but decided to go through high school. Him and I had a long argument on why he shouldn't pass up the offer. As you can see, he won the argument. I don't even know how.

I on the other hand was born with the gift of nature meaning I can control the weather, including natural disasters and communicate with animal. No, it doesn't mean I can hear them speak. It just means I can talk to them, they understand and obey. I can also grow trees, flowers and heal animals who are wounded. Occurring to Ethan, I am "Mother Nature itself".

Having a power like this, you would think I would be happy...but I'm not. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful to do these things but sometimes I have trouble controlling it. For example, if I'm angry, the place will start to shake or if I'm sad, it would just constantly rain all day. Over the past years, I've pretty much learned to control it but not entirely.

Ethan is the only one who knows about my gift. Our parents aren't really considered to be the best. When I say considered to be the best, I mean they don't act like parents at all. All they do is just lounge around the house and drink whenever they want. They don't have jobs and quite frankly, I don't even know how we own this beautiful house. Ethan and I work at a restaurant after school so we try to save up in order to get out of this shithole sooner. Our parents don't even know we work. They think we're just going to some after school program or something which is really sad.

"Are you ready to go?" I asked looking down at him. He nodded his head before turning around and giving me a hug. "I hate Mondays," he huffed into my sweater.

"Same here bud. Same here," I replied as I hugged him back.

After a minute, I grabbed my phone from my bed and my backpack from the desk before heading downstairs. Ethan walked behind me and we silently tip toed down the stairs not wanting to put up with our drunken parents. We quietly made it outside and I locked the front door behind me.
