"SORRY," I quickly responded. "What happened afterward?" I shot the question to Queen Rhea who had this amused expression on her gorgeous face.

"I only recall what my mother had told me. Theo's heart was crushed, he turned into something he wasn't before. He turned bitter." The Queen shook her head slightly. "But when Lady Isabelle was taken by Hades, he longed for her. There wasn't a day when he didn't wait for her to come back. He wrote multiple times in his journal that he would give everything to get her back, he would forgive her and let her be with Jonathon as long as she was here, in this world, where he still could see her." A tear escaped. "Until he couldn't take it anymore and killed himself."

I didn't know if it was proper or not. Neither did I care as I leaned forward and took The Queen's hand and squeezed it. "I'm sorry," I squeezed her hand once more. "And thank you for telling me. I know how hard it is for you to do that."

Queen Rhea smiled and stood up. "Good night, Lady Stavros." She walked towards the door and only stopped a few feet away. "Scarlet?"

I watched Scarlet blink multiple times before answering a simple "Yes?" Seemed like it was a surprise as well for her to see her mother crying.

"Don't forget to put back the book to where it belonged." We both looked at each other upon hearing this because we were so sure we'd hidden the book under my thick bed cover.

"Wait, you know?" Her tone showed disbelief which spread all over her face.

Looking at her daughter over one shoulder, Queen Rhea rolled her eyes. "I'm your mother, of course I know." With that, she left and two guards came out of nowhere to close the door behind her.

"So much for your amazing ninja skills, huh?" I raised my brows at Scarlet and gave her a pointed look. It was awesome that her mother was cool about it or else we would've had our asses handed over to the Palace guards.

Scarlet lifted the heavy duvet and pulled out the Queen's Diary. Slamming it down on my innocent leg, she stuck her tongue out. Brat! "You did no shit so stop complaining! And I did this for you!"

I laughed at her childish act despite her being older than me. "Yeah, keep telling yourself that, Scar. But deep down we both know you're just as interested as I am in solving this mystery."

She left a few minutes later, saying she really needed to put the diary back or else her mother would know. I rested my back on the luxurious bed and stared at the ceiling. I didn't know how long I'd been zoning out until I heard a knock at the door.

"Come on in," I said loud enough for whoever that was to hear from behind the closed door. I heard the door open and closed. And when no one said anything, I sighed and got up into a sitting position. I was taken aback to see Adrian standing there instead of Fidelia or the other maids.

Silence fell between us as both of us knew very well what had happened the last time we met. I stared at him and he stared at me. None of us was willing to speak up first.

"What do you want?" I asked him in a don't-bullshit-me tone. He flinched a little, knowing that I was still annoyed at him. Nonetheless, he took a couple of steps closer.

Now it was my turn to flinch as I saw his face was thinner and his eyes were bleaker. He was still Adrian Ambrosia and no one in the entire world could deny his good-looking facial features. But he didn't live up to his persona anymore, he didn't look like a playboy or hopeless flirt. Honestly, he didn't look anything but sad. There was a pain in his eyes that hinted it was hard for him to even breathe. The voice that came out of his mouth was filled with so much agony that it pained me to hear it. "I'm sorry. I am really really sorry, Montgomery."

I didn't say anything. I couldn't. This was Adrian. Adrian Ambrosia never said sorry or anything that resembles regret. He didn't ask for forgiveness when he'd done something wrong. Lord Adrian Ambrosia, who usually shrugged everything off and simply moved on, had never begged for forgiveness.

I simply stared at him. He took another step further before he collapsed on top of my bed and made my heart stop.
