Part 25 {Waking up?}

I sit down next to Maya while holding her hand.

'Are you family?' A doctor asks. 'Kinda,' I say. 'Okay, I just want to inform you that we will stop the artificial respiration.' 'What!? When?' 'Now.'

I get up in my chair.

'Okay, do you think that she'll wake up?' 'The chances are very big.'

They take out the tube from her mouth and they do some weird things on a machine.

'She will probably wake up in about half a hour.' 'Thank you.'

I walk around in the room, look outside the window and walk back to my chair.

After 30 minutes I sit down back in the chair.

I look at her and grab her hand, 'It is time to wake up now.'

I feel her hand holding mine.

I look at her and she moves her head. She woke up!

'Hey,' I say. 'Hi.' 'Had a nice sleep?' She nods.

We talk and talk.

Visiting hour is over and I go back home, I immediately lay down in my bed and fall asleep.

I open my eyes.

She woke up!

I run down the stairs.

I have to go to the hospital.

'Gray, are you in a hurry?' 'Yes! She woke up yesterday!' 'What are you talking about?' 'Maya, she woke up!' 'Are you sure?' 'Yes!'

'Okay I'll come with you then.'

We get in the car, and drive off towards the hospital.

I run through the halls of the hospital, towards the ICU.

Press on the call button and when the doors open Ethan and I both run towards her room.

She's lying there, still in the same position.

She did wake up right?

I look at her.

'Are you sure you weren't dreaming?' Ethan asks. I shake my head.

'It doesn't make sense! If it was a dream then where is the tube?!'

The tube is gone...?

A doctor walks into the room.

'Hello there,' he says. 'Hi,' Ethan and I both say. 'Did she wake up?!' I ask. The doctor shakes his head, 'not yet.'

I was dreaming. I just want her to wake up so bad that I was dreaming about it.

'Where is her breathing tube?' 'We removed it 2 minutes ago,' the doctor tells us. 'You think she will wake up?' 'We don't know, she is able to but we don't know if she will.' 'How long will it take for her to wake up?' '6 minutes, most of the time, or before her heart to stops beating.'

I nod.

2 minutes are already gone, 4 minutes to go.

I decided to call Cameron and tell her what's going on.

4 minutes in 2 minutes to go.

'Are you okay?' 'Why does it take her so long?!' 'I don't know Gray, I don't.'

5 minutes in 1 minute to go.

I grab her hand.

'Please wake up Maya.'

6 minutes later and she still hasn't woken up.

I hold her hand very tight and press my lips against it.

Cameron runs into the room, 'did she wake up?'

Ethan shakes his head and I ignore her.

Cameron takes my other hand and holds it.

I look behind me, my parents are standing outside of the room.

It is nice to have support at the moment.

Two minutes later and still nothing.

I look at the monitor, and see that her heart beat is raising.

That's a good sign right?!

I blink.

A loud beep fills the room.

No no no no.

I look at the monitor, a flat line.

No!

My eyes are filling with tears.

Doctors walk into the room and make the beep stop, 'time of death 11:34,' one doctor says.

This can't be true!

Cameron hugs me, 'I am so sorry Gray.'

I can't stop crying.

She left.
