My phone!

Jeez I totally forgot about that.

Of all the times you had to be forgetful Ariel

I rolled my eyes at him and fished it out very careful so as not to remove the gun too.

I hoped the water had not affected the phone. Ugh... that woman.

I brought it out and switched it on and it turned on with crossed fingers.

'Zurvie it turned on,' I said excitedly.

Of course it did

'Wow Zurvie, don't be such an ass,' I sais tsking at his lack of enthusiasm.

I quickly dialed my dad's number but it rang and no one picked it up. Then I dialed Meg's number but the same thing happened again and I frowned.

I decided to all 911 but I was scared that my captors may have snoops in the police force. I wondered why no effort was made to find me.

I shuddered when I thought of what Jax had said. What if Meg or my dad were responsible for my being captured.

I shook the thought away from my head as I continued walking on the streets.

It was getting brighter and brighter and the streets were slowly filling up with people. The place was turning up to be a market like I thought. The people were setting up there booths to sell. My mouth watered at the thought of food.

A trader shooed me away from his store. I hadn't realized that I stood there daydreaming about food. He looked at me like I was crazy and there was another thing. He also spoke Spanish like the woman.

People were filling the streets and pretty soon it was crowded and I was squeezing my way through. I decided to make enquiries on where I was.

'Excuse me,' I tapped on a shoulder and a broad man with red bushy eyebrows and a bushy mane and beard turned to look at me. He was huge and his eyebrows made him look like Red in the Angry birds movie. You guys know Red right? The red bird with the brows? Whatever!

'What you want,' he said in broken English and a thick heavily accented coarse deep voice.

'Where is this place?' I asked him twisting my fingers behind my back.

'What you mean where's this place?' He asked me while scrunching his face causing his eyebrows to join.

'Which country is this?' I asked him again.

'Ohhh,' he scratched his head and I looked up to him expectantly.

'You're in Mexico, Loreto,' he said and my mouth dropped open.

'What's wrong Steve?' Chris asked again.

'We are to report back to the station immediately,' he replied as his face bore no emotion.

'Okay. Heads or tails, who gets to drive?' He said with a mischievous glint in his eyes as he brought out a coin.

'Hell no! I won't let you drive ever again. In fact, I'll drop you were you left your car, hopefully it should still be there and you'll drive yourself,' he said slapping the coin away from his hand.

'I doubt the car is still there. You shot the tires of the other car, remember? They must have taken mine to replace theirs,' he replied and Steve groaned.

'I hope there weren't any important files in the car,' he asked as they headed out.

'No there isn't,' he answered curtly causing Steve to spare him a glance.

The ride to the station was an uneasy quite and Steve started to wonder why the loud mouthed bafoon was quiet but instead of asking why he was silent, he smiled to himself and decided to relish the moment.

He parked the car expertly in the parking lot and Chris whistled smooth at him and he rolled his eyes.

Lillan met them at the door as they were about to enter in.

'Glad to see you guys are moving along so well,' she said with a laugh and Steve glared at her while Chris merely chuckled.

She put up her hands in mock surrender as she laughed. 'If you two weren't getting along, the Chris would be covered in bruises,' she told him.

'What's the big emergency?' He asked her brushing her comment aside. She shrugged.

'The chief wants to see you both anyway,' she said and Chris winked at her as they passed her.

'Stop being such a flirt, Chris,' she said shaking her head and he laughed tapping her ass lightly and she shrieked.

'This is a police station. Take your sense of indecency somewhere else,' Steve said glancing at the both of them as he went on.

'What crawled up his ass?' She mumbled to him and he chuckled. She put her hands up to cover her mouth.

'You evil brat,' she said before laughing. 'What did you do?' She asked him.

'Chris!' He called out and he scurried over to meet him and Lillian burst into laughter.

As they got to the chief's office, they knocked and waited for a response before entering. They saluted as the chief waved them over to have a seat which was unusual.

'So I received a call that Miss Norman has been spotted in Loreto in Mexico. So I want you both to saddle up. You will be going there undercover to look for her,' he said and he watched as Steve's eye widened for a bit before he covered it up quickly.

'I expect that you both should work together. You are both the best in your fields and I do not expect anything less from you both. Is that clear?' He asked them sternly.

'Yes sir,' they answered uniformly.

'And work with precision as her captors may be near,' he warned again and they nodded.

He waved them off and they stood up to leave, all lost in thoughts.
