Chapter 30:

"You" he merely stated as he sat down across from me.

I narrowed my eyes at him. This tank of a man thought he was slick. The way his eyes scanned my body as I sat before him was unsettling. A dark brooding man such as Gino was dangerous and not in the mobster way. Something about him unsettled me, it was in the pit of my gut.

"Me?" I questioned.

"Yes, you" he chuckled as he leaned forward from his relaxed position on the couch in front of me. His elbows resting on his knees and he clasped his hands together, his eyes taking a darker tint, his gaze transfixed on me.

"Why would you want to talk about me?" I questioned, irritation lacing my voice. By the playful look in his eye, I knew he was just toying with me.

I hated being toyed with. I especially hated the way this man looked at me as he toyed with me. The tiny voice in the back of my head, screaming to run. To get away from Gino and run to the safety Amado would give me. That I was stupid for willingly being with him alone. Amando was a small frail man so he wouldn't offer much protection but I had a feeling Gino wouldn't pull anything directly in front of the old man.

This man was a snake and I had been dumb enough to push that aside and let him speak, all for the purpose of being toyed with.

"You're the girl my dear cousin has been running off to. The one that is keeping him in a moderate mood, trapping him in la-la land. Why wouldn't I want to talk about you?" he chuckled as he rose from his seat.

My body tensed as he made his way towards me. Looking at him I could see some of the family resemblances he held with D'Angelo. Hell, the two even walked in the same manner. It was uncanny and yet Gino seemed to be the sadistic one out of him and D'Angelo.

"What does anything between D'Angelo and I have to do with you?" I questioned. Working up all the nerve I could muster I looked up into his intense eyes. His eyes shifted with calculation scanning me from head to toe.

"It has everything to do with me. I'm family and we both know you're not stupid. You know what D'Angelo really does. Hell your family is involved"

My eyes widened in shock at his words. Sure I knew something was going on between mine and D'Angelo's family, but for my family to be involved in the mafia business. No. I couldn't accept that. That was insane, it went against everything I had been taught. Everything I believed in. Everything that I had ever known.

"I'm guessing by that look on your face you didn't know that" he chuckled as he sat down in front of me, resting on the wooden coffee table. I leaned back into the couch, not wanting to be so close to Gino.

"Why are my family involved?" I questioned.

He raised a thick eyebrow at me as if to say I was stupid. "Can't say. It's business and you, donna, aren't part of the business" (Woman)

I scoffed and rolled my eyes at the ignorant man in front of me. This was my family he was talking about, it had everything to do with me.

"Donna?!" I spat at him.

The fact that he had called me woman was just insulting, I knew the hidden meaning behind it. He thought that because of my gender I wasn't important. Wasn't worth anything he could talk about certain things that actually concerned me. The sleazeball of muscle consuming the space in front of me was dumb and underestimated me, I could tell by the look in his eye.
