Stefan walked around his own father's grave, setting up torches as Elena and I put down torches. "I can't believe we are doing this," I said. Elena shot me a look and I shut up. She's right. I probably shouldn't make this worse for Stefan than it already is.
"Why isn't your father in your family's tomb?" Elena asked, trying to break the silence surrounding us. Good thing to. I was going to start saying random things so I didn't feel as awkward.
"It wasn't built until after he died," Stefan answered, not seeming to be bothered that he is about to dig up his dead father to betray his vampire brother. It's also not complicated at all. Note the sarcasm.
I clapped my hands together for no reason. "You sure that cookbook is down there?"
Stefan grabbed a shovel and sighed. "As sure as I could be."
"Great," Elena said. She grabbed a shovel as well and Stefan looks at her oddly.
"Elena. I can do this on my own," Stefan assured her.
Elena shook her head. "And I said I would do whatever I can to help." I shift uneasily, feeling awkward in this situation. I'm the obvious third wheel and I needed to find a man so that would stop. Involuntarily my mind went to Damon and I almost straight up slapped myself. Get yourself together, Emily.
"I know, and I appreciate that, but-"
"This town is my home, Stefan. My friends, family, and twin is here. You're here. I don't want that tomb opened any more than you do."
I pick up the last shovel and walk over to them. "Me too! From the wise words of high schoolers who sing, I say 'We're all in this together!'" I joked. No one seems to enjoy it and I mentally slap them in my mind.
Bunch of bitches.
Later, a noise comes out from the woods and I fall on my ass from jumping.
Elena can't stop laughing and I restrain myself from slapping her. "I'm glad you find me getting hurt so amusing. I was just scared I might die. I'm too young."
"You idiot," Elena managed to breathe out.
I shake my head at her. "Back to work, Lena. But do you know the drill if one of us do die out here?"
"No one is going to die," Stefan said.
I hold up my finger. "But if someone does. Do you know it, Elena?"
She sighed. "Yes. Position the body to make it look like one of us is dabbing," Elena sadly answered.
I pat her head. "Good girl." I don't know why she looked so embarrassed. It was a good plan.
Elena started to smile, and I smirk. "I know, I know. I'm funny."
"No, not you," Elena said to me.
I place my hand over my heart. "I'm wounded."
"What you smiling about then?" Stefan asked, continuing to dig.
"Not many girls can say they've done this," Elena answered, still cheesing. Stefan gave her a slight smile and took another dig of the soil only to hit something solid.
I jumped up from the ground where I had been complaining about the strain on my muscles. "Oh my! This is it! Oh shit... it is actually happening. I'm going to see a dead body. A dead fucking-" but I didn't get to finish my ramble, because Elena placed her hand over my mouth.
"For the love of bacon, shut up," she snapped. I raised an eyebrow and gave one quick lick to her hand, knowing it would disgust her. "Ew!" She recoiled, wiping her hand on her jeans.
