KENZIE'S POINT OF VIEW
•••

"that's so not fair." i grumbled to myself, as i got changed. neither lauren nor annie were going to school today.

lauren had a dentist appointment, and annie was home sick, and me? my parents aren't letting me stay home. no matter what i say. unfair, i know.

"kenzie! the car's waiting for us." maddie called from downstairs. i grunted in reply, and grabbing my school bag, and phone, i got into the elevator, and went downstairs.

throughout the car ride, i didn't say a word, and began fretting about who i would talk to. i mean, sure, anyone would want to talk to me, but i can't just spill my secrets to anyone. my friends are chosen extremely carefully. and now i don't have brandon either.

finally i reached school. i waved goodbye to maddie, and walked straight to my locker, feeling like a loner. ah, the problems with being an extrovert.

i grabbed all my books, and sighed. today was going to be a long day. "hey mack z." i turned around. "what do you want, johnny o sings." i asked him.

we literally followed the same routine everyday. he'd arrive at my locker. i'd glare at him. he'd call me mackz. i'd call him johnnyosings. he'd annoy me, and then i'd walk to class.

"well, lauren blackmailed me into talking to you, and said that if i didn't, she'd expose me to the whole school." johnny said.

"define, expose." i said. "spill my secrets." johnny rolled his eyes. "which are?" i asked inquisitively. johnny raised his eyebrows. "okay okay! i'll tell her you spoke to me." i raised my hands up in defence.

johnny thanked me, and walked off. it was only as i walked to chemistry that it dawned on me that annie was my partner. i can't dissect things without her! she's the one who does them while i stand by her, as moral support.

the teacher was luckily already in class, so i didn't have to make conversation with other people and risk seeming desperate. i took my seat, and waited for the class to begin.

"okay guys! today we're going to continue dissecting frogs. get into your pairs, and begin. any questions?" she asked us.

i raised my hands, and so did- "yes,
mr. orlando." she asked johnny, ignoring me. rUdE muCh?

"hayden's absent. i don't have a partner." johnny answered. "i'll see what i can do. and ms. ziegler?" she asked me. i cringed, already knowing the outcome of this. "annie's absent. and she's my partner." "well that's perfect. you and mr. orlando can partner up. now chop chop, get to work, everyone." she told the class.

i glowered in my seat, as johnny made his way and sat beside me. "now i can honestly tell lauren i spoke to you." johnny grinned.

i rolled my eyes, "can we just get this over with?" "as you wish." he nodded, looking slightly put out.

he grabbed a frog from the box and held it up in front of me. i wrinkled my nose in disgust, but johnny caught sight, and smirking, he ever so casually placed the frog on my head.

i began shaking from both fear, and anger. "johnny vincent orlando!" i screeched, jumping up and down, imitating a frog. "detention. today, both of you." the teacher walked over, and angrily yelled, and then walked back to her seat. i glared at johnny, until i remembered i had a frog on my head. "take it off!" i begged him. "say the magic word." he winked. "please." i choked out, feeling the tears form in my eyes. "there isn't anything there." johnny chuckled.

my hands shaking, i raised them to my head, and felt about, and sure enough, there was nothing except for my hair. oh, how much i hate johnny orlando.

the bell rang, indicating the end of the day. great. now i have to face johnny for detention. this day is going way better than i imagined.

i walked to detention, my phone and headphones in hand. "well, you decided to show after all. well, i don't think i'm needed here. mr orlando can show you the ropes, seeing as this is practically his second home." the teacher in charge told us and left.

i was slightly worried. i was in detention. without a teacher. alone. with johnny orlando. where did all the other rebels go?

i'd already texted my parents, lying and saying i was helping out with some non existent pep rally, and thankfully they believed me.

i sat as far away from johnny as i could, but surprisingly he didn't comment. "ran out of mean things to say, huh?" i grinned.

surprisingly, he just shrugged. "wanna talk about it?" i asked him, and he shook his head. i shrugged, and then plugged in my earphones, and began jamming to some songs.

halfway through, johnny got up, and made his way to the door. "hey! where are you going?" i asked him in indignation. "these no one here. what's the point in staying?" he raised his eyebrows.

"i- oh. yeah. duh! i was about to leave as well." i let out a fake chuckle, while johnny sarcastically nodded.

"bye johnny." i said. he nodded, and left. i followed behind him, wondering what was wrong. i got into my car, and valgo, my driver began to drive.

as we drove, i saw johnny walking ahead of me. "valgo, slow down." i said, who obediently heeded my request.

i rolled down my window, and yelled to johnny, "do you want a ride?" he ignored me, and kept walking. the car followed beside him. "i'll treat you to ice cream." i said. i remember that's all i had to say to get him to do something. at least when we were dating.

evidently, he hadn't changed, because at the mention of ice cream, his face lit up. valgo stopped the car, and johnny entered. "okay valgo, to jemily's ice cream store." i told him. he nodded, and began driving.
