chapter thirteen

KENZIE'S POINT OF VIEW

i woke up to my mom shaking me. "sweetie. it's time for school." she said softly.

i grunted, and rolled over, covering my head with my blanket. my mom let it a chuckle, before wrapping me in a hug.

something good had come out of this accident, and my parents had tried to be spend more time with me. it was probably the guilt taking over, but i enjoyed every moment.

i finally stretched, and slowly got off my bed. my mom went out of my room. i yelled out to dorota to help me get dressed, and she hurriedly appeared.

no, i'm not a baby — i can get dressed myself, but with one broken arm, it gets kinda hard. thankfully, it was my right hand which was injured, and me being left handed, i was still
able to write.

once i was finally ready, i went downstairs, and saw maddie stuffing books into her bag. my parents were both seated on the table, my mom talking to maddie, and my father was, reading a newspaper, which he left when i arrived.

"morning." i said. "good morning." he replied with a nod. i was surprised he didn't call me out on my blunder, but it's not like i'm complaining.

"how's your arm?" he asked me. i grunted lazily, and my parents let out a laugh.

finally dorota arrived with my breakfast. i happily gobbled it down, before walking towards the limo with maddie.

upon reaching school, people began staring at me. a few yelled out a get well soon but i had jo idea why i felt so insecure. i'm practically one of the most popular girls in my year, and it's a known fact, even to me.

"kenz!" annie squealed, as she ran over. "how's your arm?" she asked me. "getting better." i replied. she nodded, and without asking me, she took a pen from her pocket, and began to write on my cast.

"imagine if you died woah- i'd be stuck with lauren lmao but like fr i'm so happy you're okay! i love chu" — your favourite person alive aka annikan

i gave her a hug after reading her message, letting out a chuckle at how she'd signed off. just then, lauren walked up to us.

"kenzay!" she screeched, carefully wrapping me in a hug which i returned using one hand. she looked at my cast, and seeing that annie had signed, snatched the pen from her hand, and began writing.

"kenzieboo! i'm extremely glad you're okay. your boYfrIenD would have gone mad without you, but then again, so would i. anywhoo...i'm glad you're safe! love uuuuu"

just like i had with annie, i wrapped lauren in a hug, chuckling at her message. "ugh! this is so sad. alexa, play despacito." johnny wiped a fake tear from his eye, walking towards us.

"hello to you too." i laughed. "how are you feeling?" he asked me. "better. sign." it was my turn to snatch the pen from lauren, which i handed to johnny. he grinned at my straightforwardness, but signed anyway.

my heart melted when i read what he had written. even those few words managed to do things to me.

"i'm so glad you're okay, mackz. idk what i'd do w/o u." — your favourite boyfriend

i gave him a hug, and i had to bear annie and lauren screaming jenzie, loud enough for the whole school to hear. i just ignored them, but johnny turned red.

"why are you blushing?" i whispered in his ear. "i'm not blushing! it's rosacea!" johnny protested.

i nodded in disbelief, raising my eyebrows. annie and lauren just chuckled on the side. just then, the bell rang, indicating that the day had begun.

"hey guys." i said to annie as i made my way to sit at our usual lunch table. "hi." they replied in unison.

"hey, kenz...is it cool if carson, hayden and johnny join us for lunch?" annie asked me. i shrugged, and nodded, not really caring.

i looked up and saw annie and lauren both blush. "okay...lauren is blushing cause of carson...but annie..?" i trailed off.

"she likes hayden!" lauren squealed, quietly. "lauren! that was supposed to be confidential!" annie lightly whacked her with her arm.

i forced a smile, but deep down i was hurt. usually annie would tell me all of this as well. had my trip to the hospital really given them
so much time to become closer to each other?

i didn't have much time to think over it, because just then, the three of the boys walked over to our table, and took a seat.

"hey girls." carson said. we all sat down and hayden and annie, and lauren and carson immediately began shamelessly flirting with each other.

i sat there, bored, and johnny had the same expression on his face. i was unsure of what to talk about, so instead i pulled out my phone and went onto instagram.

i scrolled through my feed; and my eye caught sight of a particular picture. i could feel my eyes well with tears. without saying anything, i jumped up, and ran from the table.

i was about to go the washroom, but knowing annie and lauren would search there first, i did the only thing i could think off, and walked out of school.

i hadn't expected that picture to have such a huge impact on me, and i didn't like that it did. to cool my mind, i walked over to starbucks, which wasn't too far from school.

i entered, and stood in line to place my order. once i did, i went and sat at a table, waiting for my name to be called out.

"kenzie!" i heard the worked yell. i jumped up, and got my drink. as i was returning to my table, i bumped into someone.

"oh sor-" i was cut off by her excitement. "kenzie! is that you?"
