KENZIE'S POINT OF VIEW
•••

i walked into detention, my hand intertwined with johnny's, and lauren skipped along, beside him.

"so how'd you guys start dating?" lauren smirked. she had landed herself into detention on purpose, because she had no means on getting home, as she hated the bus, and was too lazy to walk, and so she figured hanging with us would be more fun than just waiting outside school. she didn't even have her own license, letting her drive herself home.

i blushed slightly, and looked at johnny. we hadn't figured out the answer of this question. johnny simply shrugged and carelessly replied, "i asked her out at lunch."

lauren raised her eyebrows in disbelief, and asked us, "aren't you guys rushing jenzie a bit? i mean...not that i mind." she added quickly.

"jenzie?" i repeated, confused. johnny smacked his face with his hand, while lauren replied. "it's yours and johnny's ship name." "that's cute. don't you agree?" i elbowed johnny.

"kenzie. she anyways knows. just admit it." johnny sighed. i ignored the flutter of my heart when johnny called me kenzie, and turned to lauren, who had her arms folded across her chest, a sassy smile on her face.

"yes, we're not really dating." kenzie sighed. "but what's the use of this? i mean...you know...you two fake dating.

johnny and i, together, explained what had happened with molly and brandon. "and so, this way, neither of our reputations get ruined." johnny finished with a shrug.

"well, just saying, y'all aren't very good at fake dating. both annie and i realised." lauren chuckled.

"you liar!" johnny exclaimed, maybe a little too loudly.

"mr. orlando. you don't want to make your detention two weeks for screaming in the hallways, now, do you?" mrs. silver questioned.

the three of us had been so engrossed in our conversation, i don't think any of us had realised we'd reached.

"sozz." johnny replied carelessly. the teacher just shook her head in disapproval.

"now, get inside, and take a seat far away from each other. finish whatever work you have left. i'll be keeping an eye on you." mrs. silver said.

i sighed and took my seat. i didn't have any catch up work, and so i took out my homework books, and finished up my history and maths homework. there wasn't too much, and i practically done in forty five minutes.

just as i put my books away, mrs. silver's phone rang. she blocked it up, and quietly spoke into it. i could hear a few words from her side.

"yes. detention. i'll be there." she ended her call, and stood up. "well, i have to attend to something. another teacher will be here in five minutes to take over. stay seated." she ordered, and then walked out.

"and i'm outta here." johnny said, slinging his bag over one shoulder. he was about to leave, when lauren sighed dramatically. "it might just accidentally slip then my brother, who's supposed to be here, ditched, and i have no means of getting home."

"oh come on! ditch with me!" johnny pleaded. "and ruin my perfect reputation? i think not." lauren grinned. "dude, your reputation was ruined the moment you walked in here." johnny said. lauren ignored him, probably because he had a point.

for the next few minutes, we all just sat in silence, until i spoke. "guys, she's a no show. let's just leave."

lauren instantly got up, shooting johnny a sly smile. johnny opened his mouth wide, and stared at lauren in disdain. "i give up on you." he muttered under his breath. i chuckled, laughing at how they were #siblinggoals.

finally we all left detention, and just as we were about to exit school, we came face to face with a teacher. "are you three the kids who have detention?" she asked us, her hands folded over her chest.

lauren and i nodded, while johnny shook his head. he glared at us upon realising what we'd done.

"well, skipping detention isn't the best way to start it, excluding you, mr. orlando." the teacher added, when she looked at johnny's face, full of protest. "thank you." he grinned.

"well, i'm not letting you get off so easily, so y'all can all go home, but you have to help in the making of the posters for the pep rally on saturday." she said. we all began arguing, but she didn't budge from her decision. "nice doing business." johnny smirked, and then walked out.

"thanks a lot. now i'm stuck decorations posters with girls." he made a disgusted face. "hey, i'm your girlfriend." i smirked, lightly whacking his arm.

johnny just rolled his cheeks, but i could see a red tinge rising on his cheeks. i smirked, as we continued to walk to the parking lot. finally we got into our respective cars, and waved goodbye to each other.

as my driver pulled up outside my house, i tried sneaking in, but my luck being how it is, my parents were standing right at the door, their arms folded across their chest.

"mackenzie frances ziegler! where have you been!" my mother exclaimed.

"chill! i was at detention!" i said, rolling my eyes.

"we almost called the police." my father told me. angrily. "yeah well sorry. now please, can't y'all just calm down." i huffed.

the both room a deep breath, before leading me to the living room. over there, i got a lecture on rights and wrongs, and finally i was allowed to go upstairs to my room.

today wasn't too bad of a day, unless of course you count getting detention. being forced to make posters. getting into trouble with your parents, and of course, getting a lecture for about half an hour. not bad at all.
