Brown Sugar

I like oatmeal in the mornings. 

With lots of brown sugar, 

it's almost like I'm not eating oatmeal at all. 

I like it mushier, with raisins. 

and brown sugar. 

Cinnamon is nice too, a little spice in the porridge never killed anyone. 

It pairs nicely with the tenderness of a spoonful (or two) of brown sugar. 

The compassion of its words. 

The bond it forms with my father who would rather not adulterate his oatmeal with anything. 

More for me. 

It's hard to hate oatmeal when you taste it the way I make it. 

You wouldn't even know it's gross. 

So early in the mornings, before work begins.

Be my early bird and eat oatmeal with me. 

It's cheap. 

It comes with an abundance of brown sugar.

Not necessarily raisins. 

Maybe, possibly some cinnamon. 

The house will smell like a bakery. 

Maybe I'll add some vanilla for your sweet tooth, 

if it's not sweet enough to begin with. 

Just know, 

I like my brown sugar with a side of oatmeal.

A dash of cinnamon. 

A handful of raisins to stir in with the mix. 

It's not gross that way.
