EXTENDED SUMMARY:
Simon Spier has a normal life,with normal friends and a normal family. Until he sees a notebook, and kind of maybe sorta reads it. Turns out it's the confessions of a closeted gay kid, who happens to go to Hawkins middle as well. The book is signed by 'Blue'. Simon decides to leave his own note inside it, confessing he too is gay (signing it 'Jaques') before returning it to the lost and found. Soon, a note where Simon found the book is left, from Blus, saying he'd like to keep in touch, and to put his letters underneath an arcade game, where Blue would find it. It's fun Nd games at first, not feeling like the only gay kid in the world, but then Simon realizes something worse is happening. He's falling in love.

— so yes lucas is blue and kind of bares his soul to simon cause he feels he has to be macho and tough around his friends
and the whole messages thing will be harder to work out in the 80s but basically — blue leaves a note under the donkey kong game. simon collects the note, reads it, writes a note back, leaves it under the galaga game, where blue collects it, reads it, repeat.
— simon is like... small friends with the group, but they feel like he has a secret so they try to get closer to him and involuntarily become good friends with simon, and let him in on the eleven stuff. simon thinks blue is mike and first.
— cute ass scene where lucas and simon come to the arcade at the same time to leave notes for each other and awkwardly try to explain why they're there
— aNd YES mArTin finds one of the notes and threatens to out simon if he doesn't get him to help him with his grades, but whoopsido, martin still fails and outs simon, causing some angsty next couple chapters and for blue to ghost him
— simon leaves notes all over town for blue to meet him where it began, aka the galaga game. no one comes for hours, until lucas finally shows up. it's fluffy, it's adorable, they're gay bye
