I went for a walk in the nearby wood

I went for a walk in the nearby wood
Just to forget everything that I could,
Or maybe less to forget, but instead,
Sort things out, reconcile what's ahead.
Freshness emanated from among the trees,
Of course, the ground, covered by leaves,
Crackled and crunched under every step.
In life much is so very difficult to accept;
Chance a hurtling meteor passing through space,
But chance also brings me to this time, this place.
Out here in this wood in nature's residence,
Distractions, as a bird signals my presence,
Or a rustling bush when a small creature's
Flight turns my head, and physical features
Remind me that step by step as we confront
The unforeseen and the accidental,
We have little choice but to take the brunt,
And leave the wood less sentimental.

Until today this was an unfinished poem I began last October. I went for a walk at nearby Blackfoot Staging Area to sort a few things out. The poem got it start when I returned home.
