cries of grief and loss
echo across this frozen land
tragedy erupted
along distant highway 35
fracturing the quiet,
rippling — no! reverberating
as a meteor hitting the frozen tundra,
the impact surging across the globe
CBC and TSN to Fox and CNN
BBC and Al Jazeera to Canal+
Russia 1 and China Central
on a Friday night
29 boarded a bus in Saskatchewan
and none reached their destination
16 snatched away!
those boys, their driver, their coaches, their therapist
no one understands how or why
there is this compulsion to simply cry
our collective psyche is smashed
our collective consciousness in anguish
our need to partake in the pain
means a GoFundMe reaches 12 mill
but the loss remains
we are all human,
and our human heart has broken
all I have to offer are these words
