Violent Thoughts and Trembling Hands

~

I executed my plan so brilliantly it could've won me an award, the only downfall was my hesitation.

My hands shook so violently I was terrified I'd almost slit his throat, or maybe it would be a blessing if my nerves did it for me, at least then I'd be able to reassure myself it was an accident. But it was no accident, it was far from it, I'd been planning this encounter for weeks.

I steadied my rapid heartbeat, allowing myself time to think and come to terms with everything. I forced my hands to stop their trembling, pressing closer to the smooth skin of his throat with my dagger. I tried not to glance at his closed eyelids, or the blood trickling from his forehead, as I readied myself.

Do it now.

I could do it now and it'd be over and done with.

But I am not a murderer. I am not a cold blooded monster. I am not.

But I could be.

I was pulled from my thoughts abruptly as the door opened, only giving me a split second to grab my spare dagger, whirl, and hurl it towards whoever had entered.

But he caught it.
