Chapter 5

[Marie's POV]

Okay. To be totally and completely honest, I didn't expect college to be this...simple.

I mean, don't get me wrong the classes are pretty hard, especially since we only began about a two weeks ago and I had a few tests today. Also added to the fact that the teachers don't give a shit if your late with an assignment, they just give you a straight up zero.

Fortunately, I hadn't had to experience that, yet. The only way that I do know this is that on the third day this one girl in my Differential Equations course thought she'd flirt with the nearly sixty year old professor to get away with it. Obviously, it failed.

Other than that, the college life has been pretty simple. I'm acing all my courses so far, Dym and I have become really close, and the boys here are just older versions of high schoolers with more responsibility and privileges. At least that's with the frat boys.

Speaking of boys, Ethan has been nothing but a helpful TA which surprisingly disappoints me. I get it, though. It just makes it hard to act like we hadn't literally fallen on top of each other in the showers. Also, my new favorite spot in the cafe allows us to interact on a more comfortable level so that's kind of a challenge.

For instance, everyday after my classes, I'd come here and drug up on coffee and sugar so I can study for a test or possible pop quiz and then Ethan'll come on his break and help me. Surprisingly, he's actually not bad of a guy. Let me rephrase that, he's an awesome guy.

We talk like we've known each other for all our lives. It's funny how in such a short time you can feel so close to someone you barely know. I'm not sure what that says about my character but whatever. I love that he doesn't care to show that little dark but quirky side to him and the fact that we have so much in common.

I don't know, it's just real hard sometimes to separate friend from teacher. I guess you would call it a bitter-sweet situation.

Anyways, it is Friday at 8 o'clock at night and I'm sitting in a booth in the cafe. Dym is probably out with that hot guy that we learned his name to be Michael, Mike for short.

Oh right I forgot to mention, after awhile of staring and many attempts of asking her out, Dym finally gave into Mike and now, today, is their second date. Yes, very cute but the shop is about to close in about thirty minutes and I have nowhere to go.

I could go to Beth's house, but she said she's going out too so I guess that's a no.

Bored, I let out a huff as I stare out the window into the slightly busy street.

"What's with the longing stare? Are you thinking about me, again?" Ethan's velvety thick voice whispers as he sits on the other side of my booth facing me.

I can't help but jump in my seat in surprise, "Jesus, Ethan you scared the shit out of me."

Chuckling, he shakes his head in a condescending way, "Now Marmar, it isn't good to cuss and say God in the same sentence."

Narrowing my eyes, "This coming from a man who cusses in every other word that he speaks? Oh, and don't call me that."

"Heyheyhey who said anything about me? I was just stating the obvious."

Rolling my eyes, I just ignore him as I continue to people watch.

It's silent for a few moments before Ethan breaks it, "Do you want to go to my place?"

Snapping my head to him, "What?" The way I say it makes me seem kind of offended by the invitation, but I'm not. It just...it shocked me is all.

A look of hurt crosses over his features before he covers it with a calm smile. "Never-"
