Chapter 21

Tyson led about fifty feet and there was a building with a neon sign with bold letters: monster doughnut.
"This isn't good" I said
"What's wrong with monster doughnut?" Percy asked "we have them in Gotham"
"Don't you think it's weird we're in the middle of nowhere and now suddenly it shows up" I said "it could be a nest"
"A nest?" Percy asked
"Of monsters a breeding ground" I said "some children of Hermes figured out"
I heard a scrape and turned. A hydra stood there it wore a shirt that said 'i'm a monster doughnut kid!'
"Don't move" I said
Percy pulled out riptide. I shook my head silently. If we made any sound or light like that of the glow of celestial bronze we were dead.
Tyson whimpered stepped back snapping a twig in the process. It's heads turned.
I yelled "scatter"
I dove to the left and Percy to the right. The monster advanced on Tyson. Percy drew riptide and the hydra turned. I fumbled with my dagger. I wasn't close enough to help. Percy raised his sword as the heads attacked.
"No!" I yelled to late he sliced a head off. From that stump grew two more heads.
"Percy you just opened a monster doughnut somewhere." I said
"Never mind that" he yelled dodging the venom. It flew at me and I ducked. I turned to see a hole in the tree behind me. "How do we kill it"
"Fire" I yelled "we need fire."
A chugging sound came from behind us on the river.
"What is that" I asked
"Steamboat" Tyson shouted
It fired. The hydra withered and was reduced to a pile dust.
"Well I guess I should let you losers aboard." Clarisse said

It was an ironclad from the civil war. From The confederate states of America. When they existed. All around us were skeletons also from the confederacy. They were fine with me because I told them I was from Virginia. They also liked Percy until he told them he wasn't a descendent of Stonewall Jackson and he was from New York. Then they went on about stupid Yankees. It was probably a good thing I didn't have my cap in view.
"We're at the entrance" the captain said
"Of what" Percy asked
"The sea of monsters" Clarisse said

I clipped my belt on making sure all my explosives and knives were there. My dagger hung on my left side and I wore my gloves just in case I needed extra protection. Percy had the same idea.
A storm brewed and the ship had to work even harder to continue.
"Hurricane?" I asked
"No charybdis" Clarisse said
"Are out insane?" I demanded
"It's the only way in"
"Why not just sail around them?" Percy asked
"If you try so sail around them they just appear in your path again it's the only way." She shouted
"What about the clashing rocks?" I asked
"My cannons wont blow apart rock" Clarisse said "we can blow apart monsters."
"You are insane" I said
"Maybe more insane than Harvey dent" Percy muttered
"Set course for Charybdis" Clarisse shouted
"Aye m'lady" the captain said
"Clarisse choose Scylla" Percy urged "we can all go below deck and we can chug passed"
"No she'll pluck up the whole ship." Clarisse said
The boilers were heating I could feel the deck heating up.
"You still have the thermos?" I asked
"It would be too dangerous with the whirlpool the wind could make it worse." Percy said
"Can you control the water?" I asked
He paused and closed his eyes in concentration.
"I can't" he said
"We need a backup plan" I said "this won't work"
"Annabeth is right" Tyson said "engine not good"
"What do you mean?" I asked
"Too much pressure" he said
As Tyson predicted a minute later a zombie sailor came up.
"The boiler room is overheating she's going to blow" he said
"We'll get down there and fix it!" Clarisse shouted
"Can't" he shouted "we're vaporizing"
"Get into range" Clarisse shouted
"We're going too fast. Prepare for death" the captain said "again"
"I can fix it" Tyson shouted
"You?" Clarisse asked
"He's a Cyclopes. That means he's immune to fire" I shouted
"Go" Clarisse yelled
"No Tyson" Percy shouted "you'll die"
"I'll be okay brother"
He went below. We continued getting sucked into the whirlpool.
"Guns are in range" the captain yelled
"Fire" Clarisse said
They shot.
"Again"
The ship creaked and we started going back.
"Tyson did it" I shouted
Suddenly the sea died completely calm. Then with no warning all Tartarus broke loose. We were thrown backwards.
"The engine is going to blow" a sailor shouted
"Lifeboats!" I shouted
"Annabeth" Percy tossed me the thermos "get them away in getting Tyson"
"You can't the heat" I yelled
Of course he didn't listen.
KABOOM
The ship exploded.
"Percy" I yelled I twisted the thermos cap off
He flew into the air and I saw him hit the sea as we flew away.
