**Embry's Pov.**

We both just stood there for the longest time.
My heart was pounding against my chest, as I stared into soft ice blue eyes.
Ace's serious expression, never faltering as I remained quiet.
How much sense did that make?
Past lives?
Demons? Vampires??

I snapped out of thought, hearing a chuckle escape from the other that soon erupted into laughter.
It chilled me to the bone, seeing Ace laugh.
But it was also dangerous enough, to make my heart race.

"I'm kidding Embry." He told me, brushing away a stray tear as he smiled at me.
My eyes shot wide.
"Are you serious?" I demanded, my voice was a lot quieter than I thought. I barely heard myself ask him that.
Ace smiled at me.
"Yes, but to answer your question. I am protecting you, because I want to. That should be enough reason." He told me cupping my cheek as I stared into his eyes.
"I guess.." I murmured, looking away from him before a soft gasp escaped me when his lips pressed to mine.

"They won't touch you." He said.
I nodded, feeling shy as he stepped away from me.
"I'm going to check on a few things, you're free to explore the mansion if you want." He told me.
I nodded looking around my room now.
When he left, a heavy sigh left me as I collapsed onto the floor.

I stared at the door for the longest time, so many thoughts were racing through my head.
Why would he tell me a story like that, then tell me he was kidding?
Maybe he thought it scared me.
Which it did.
I didn't want to think about myself like that.
Not in love with a demon..
But imprisoned by my own father, because I didn't want to take over the throne.

I can't imagine, growing up to only be thrown away.
Chills ran throughout my body, I glanced to the window with a soft frown.
Gathering myself back up to my feet, I walked over to the barred window, my arms crossed as I peered out.
The cars never moved, as the men stood stiff like statues.
They were putting their lives on the line, for my sake.
It felt wrong.

I glanced over my shoulder, hearing the floor creak above me.
Frowning to myself, I walked over to the door.
My hand holding onto the knob, as I stared.
Was I really okay with my life being protected like this?

Would I really have a life, being protected from other clans?
Ace seemed so sure about keeping me safe..
But.

I shook my head, snap out of it Embry.
If Ace says he'll keep you safe, then he will.

Don't question it.

Opening the door, I stepped out of my room before looking down the long hallway.
Taking a deep breath, I walked down the hall.

I guess I would take this time, to explore like Ace had suggested.
If I was going to live here, I would need to get used to where things were.

I walked through so many doors, to find different things in each room.
The main one that got me, was the library.
I was in complete awe about the books here.
There had to be over four hundred.
And that was just a guesstimate.

I walked over to a section of books, a dark navy blue one caught my attention.

There was no title, or author.

It was blank.
Frowning, I went to open it to only let out a surprised scream when someone shut it behind me.

I turned, wide eyes as Ace stood there.
His brows furrowed with a sad expression.
"Sorry.. um don't open that book." He told me.
"Why not?" I asked him a little shaken up still.
"Just don't." He stated walking out of the library.

My eyes were on the book now, what was inside the book that he didn't want me to see?
It just made me even more curious.

But I wasn't going to piss him off by rebelling.
Sighing to myself, I walked out of the library then continued to explore the large ass house.

When I made it to the dinning hall, I was surprised to see plates already set out for everyone.
The table was also huge as I walked over to it.
I let my finger tips brush over the soft wood as I walked down the room, my eyes on the pearl white plates.
Pearl white was a rare color and for them to be on plates, surprised me.

"Ah, sir Embry are you hungry?" A girl asked me.

I turned to a pale blonde, she stood there with soft brown eyes as she smiled at me.
I smiled at her.
"Just a little, what are you cooking?" I asked her.
She began to fidget.
"Sir Ace requested steak and asparagus.. would that be alright with you as well?" She asked me.
My brows furrowed.
"Yes.. that's fine, say what's your name?" I asked her.
She flinched at the question.
"Macy.." She told me.
I smiled with a nod.
"Its nice to meet you Macy, and you don't need to call me sir. Embry is fine." I reassured her.
Macy seemed hesitant, but she nodded.

When she vanished, I couldn't help but feel off about her.
She was skittish and was young, it just didn't feel right.

I walked off out of the dinning room, looking around now.

"Embry." I turned to see Ace at the front door, I walked directly up to him now.
"What is it?" I asked him.
Ace studied me for a minute.
"Its late, if you want you can go eat then sleep." He told me.
I made a face at that.

"Aren't you going to join me?" I asked him.
Ace seemed shocked I would ask him that.
He looked back to his men, then to me before smiling softly.
"Yes, I will join you. Come." He instructed walking away from the door.
Nodding obediently, I followed the other back into the dinning room.

Macy was sitting the food out, before her eyes fell on Ace.
I didn't like the way she flinched at the sight of them, before she finished up then dashed out of the room.
"What's wrong with her?" I asked him.

Ace's eyes fell on me, then to the door Macy ran out of.
"Macy was a runaway, she fell into a bad spot in her life to the point she tried killing herself, and that's when Derek found her. He begged me to take her in, and ever since then. She's been skittish, no one is allowed to touch her without her screaming. Especially a man." Ace's eyes seemed to darken as he frowned.
"I don't believe the people Macy lived with, were nice to her. More or less the man she lived with, she has it nailed in her head that all men are the same, and they're going to hurt her like that man did." He told me.

I felt the knots return as I forced a nod.
"Macy is a kind and sweet girl, even though she's been told time and time again she doesn't need to act like a servant here. She acts on her own, and does so. When in reality, she's a guest here who is being taken care of by Derek." He explained to me.

I simply nodded as we took a seat at the table.
I watched Macy come out with wine and glasses, she placed one beside me then by Ace.

Who smiled gratefully at her.

Macy blushed before her eyes fell on me, she looked away quickly as she ran back out.

While we ate, all I could think about was Macy and what I could possibly do to help her.

I didn't like the idea of her suffering the way she did, when she's clearly not being treated like a maid here.

Ace made that clear when he explained to me.
I couldn't help but wonder if that man died guilty, from what he did to her.

No girl should be terrified of a man.. just like no boy should be terrified of a girl.

When we finished eating, Ace came with me to my room.
I crawled under the silk red covers, pulling them over my chest as he sat on the edge of the bed.
So much has happened in a day, and it's felt like weeks to me.
My eyes never left Ace's.
I didn't pull away, when he leaned in and kissed me tenderly.
I didn't shove him, when he sucked on my neck.
And I didn't ask him to stop.
When I heard the first moan escape me.

I was falling in love, and I knew.

That was a terrible mistake.
