Finding it

That night I toss and turn as a nightmare finds me in my sleep. I wake up with a cold sweat on my skin, Kia jolts awake too at my sudden movement, probably out of habit of evading monsters. "Are you okay?" She asks me, "Is there anything wrong?"

"N-nothing is wrong." I say, rubbing my eyes. Yet, as soon as the reassuring words leave my mouth, she puts her guard down. She mutters something about how if she was liked by two, nonetheless one, person, she wouldn't be waking up from a nightmare, and soon fell back asleep.

In the morning Kia is no longer next to me and I hear voices and rummaging in the kitchen. I get out of bed still tired, having been unable to sleep restfully since the dream. I fix my hair into a quick ponytail before leaving the bedroom and make my way to the chatter.

Walking into the kitchen, I see that Kia is sitting at the table, Travis is cooking, and Alex is on the couch, scribbling something on a notepad. "Hey there, sleeping beauty." Kia smiles at me.

"Good morning," I respond.

Alex smiles at me in response.

"Breakfast will be ready soon," Travis says, "I went out this morning and got pancake mix, syrup, and fruits."

"Did you pay?" Kia questions, "You said got, not bought."

The son of the theft god rolls his eyes, "Just because I told you about the time I've stollen, you assume that these are stollen too?"

I laugh and take a seat next to Kia.

Without blinking she says, "Yes."

"Well you're not wrong."

"What?" I say, "Are you serious?"

"No," he says with his signature mischievous smirk, "But I got, you didn't I?"

I hear a scoff from behind me and notice Alex's face has contorted into a scowl. Okay, so Alex might not like how Travis treated me, but he understands he's trying to be better. Doesn't mean he still feels a certain way about him.

Still I roll my eyes and laugh lightly as Travis takes his focus from the pancakes, and waves the receipt in front of my nose.
