Imperial Palace.

Inside the large bathing hall of the palace, two female servants slowly threw rose petals into the prepared bath. A few moments later, a young girl emerged from behind the curtains.

Her soft, white skin. Pink lips that were kissable and unlike most females, hair cut to shoulder length. The one and only princess of the emperor, Princess Shuchun. As her birthday was coming up, the whole palace was in preparation.

As she was the only daughter, the emperor favored her a lot and doted on her the most. Everyday, gifts would be sent to her palace hall and even the concubines were jealous of the way the emperor treated her.

Princess Shuchun was adored by all her older brothers, even if some were enemies to each other. Her birthday was very special because it was the only time her brothers set aside their evil plans to celebrate it. They even got along to the point that you'd think, there's no way they are trying to kill each other for the throne.

"Princess, how is your bath?" One of the female attendants asked when she saw the princess with a gloomy face.

The answer gave no response so the servants stopped trying to ask. They didn't want to anger her if she was feeling down.

"Have you ever been married?" Princess Shuchun's gentle and childish voice asked. Being only twelve at the moment, she was very disappointed with herself.

The servants heard her serious question and both shook their heads vigorously.

"Of course not. Princess, us servants will get killed if we marry while serving in the palace."

There was another long silence.

Princess Shuchun stared into her reflection as she recalled her father's words a month ago.

"You are getting to an age suitable for marriage. On your birthday, you will be the husband I have chosen for you."

At that time, she was dumbfounded. She was only an child, how could she possibly marry? No matter how much she wanted to refuse, she was in no position to.

"He's from an outstanding background and out of all the candidates, the most suitable for my one and only daughter."

Princess Shuchun felt herself tearing up but she quickly played it off as she dove into the bath. She came back up for air and looked at her two servants blankly.

"What are you planning going do?"
Yuyan asked, helping Wu Xingxie wear her clothes.

"I will create a scene for them to enjoy. As you know, many court officials will be present. Imagine how much he and his son's reputation will be affected." Wu Xingxie replied before taking a seat in front of the mirror. Today was the awaited day. It was Princess Shuchun's birthday so the capital was bustling with special events. Only those invited by the emperor could attend the party so many people decided to celebrate their own way.

Princess Shuchun was admired by the people because she was known to help out commoners. The loads of gifts that her father gave mostly ended up being donated or auctioned off as she really didn't want or need them. Having his love was already enough so she was very grateful to him.

"But, Eldest Miss, aren't you worried about being found out?" She brushed Wu Xingxie's long hair, removing the tangles and knots.

"Yuyan, if I was scared of being caught, why would I do this in the first place?" Wu Xingxie smiled into the mirror, grabbing her cosmetics to put on her face.

"Sorry, I'm nervous because it will be our first time in the palace. I don't want anything to happen to Eldest Miss." Yuyan was very worried about this plan because there were going to be lots of people who would be meeting Eldest Miss for the first time and vice versa.

"Thank you. But I can assure you, no one will be able to point it to us." Fixing her eyebrows,Wu Xingxie was remarkably serene unlike her best friend.

After getting ready, she then did Yuyan's makeup since they had to look good for the party. This was a special event so many people would be trying to gain connections or kiss up to the higher ups.

These sorts of practices were common in society so no one really bothered to point them out.

"By the way, is Seventeen Young Master coming?" Yuyan curiously wondered to which Wu Xingxie shook her head.

"He doesn't want to come so I won't make him." Truthfully, it was better that he didn't want to come because the palace was a dangerous place. Once you step in, anything could happen.

The two girls continued to discuss their future plans when a knock came from the outside.

"Is the Eldest Miss ready?" Wei's voice called to check.

"Hold on just a little bit!" Yuyan shouted in case he couldn't hear them. Wu Xingxie finished up before the two looked at themselves in the mirror. Admiring each other's beauty, the two chuckled before Yuyan helped put Wu Xingxie's veil on her face.

"It's been a while since I cover my face. I'm so used to it now." Wu Xingxie commented when the veil was secured in the back.

Inside the carriage, Wu Xingxie couldn't help but peek outside to see the view from where she sat. As the child of a noble family, she didn't have to walk on foot when traveling around. It was the first time she was going outside the estate without having to sneak out so it wad a new feeling.

From where she sat, she saw many people looking at the Wu family members who were headed to the palace. Master Wu and Madam Wu were in the first carriage before hers while Wu Yunxia was inside the one behind hers.

Wu Xingxie leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes to relax a bit. She needed all the energy to watch the show she had prepared for today.
