Jack
"What a pain in the ass she is." Daniel mutters during our car ride. Of course I know who he is talking about, however I decide to ignore him and hope that he will drop it. Nevertheless it is Dan. "I mean, damn, she's quite the nagger. Man if I had to live with her-"

"Well you don't." I interrupt him abruplty. "I stand her so just let it go." I excuse my behaviour, meeting his gaze. I think Dan is starting to suspect me and I don't like it at all.

"Right whatever, man. Just remember who your real friends are." Dan says, emphasizing the word friends.

"I always do." I tell him and hold in a sigh. Daniel has started to get on my nerves quite a lot lately. Not that I can show it in any way, I need to keep my relationship with him stable and cannot have a fight with him, especially not over something like Sarah. Duncan relies on us both and he would be in deep shit if I screwed anything up and I am need of the money. Fucking shit up with Daniel will fuck shit up at work and that will just end badly.

Sarah
"Did Jack go out?" Mum interrupts me in my reading. I am seated in one of our armchairs with my reading glasses on. I look up as she enters and frown, how bad is her memory? "His friend came by earlier and picked him up, remeber?" I remind her.

"Oh." She says understanding. "I thought they were going to hang out here."

"Thank God they didn't." I mutter, going back to my book.

"You're not very fond of Jack's friends, are you?" Mum says, her inner psychologist breaking out from its shell.

"Mum, please. I'm reading." I plead with a sigh, holding up my book.

"I'm just saying. Maybe you could get closer to Jack if you'd be willing to hang out with his friends a bit more." She continues, as always, penetrating me with her eyes.

"I hardly believe that they'd like that." I mutter, not looking up from the book.

"Have you tried?"

"Yes, as a matter of fact I have." I say in a clipped tone, putting the book down. "And it was one of the worst things I've ever endured. They are rude and disrespectful, not to mention a bunch of idiots with no future." I snap and mum's appearance has become full of disapproval. "Don't you dare tell me wrong, you know that it's true as much as I do."

"Maybe I do, Sarah, but unlike you, I have faith in these younglings. I don't believe that they have no future." Mum says, looking at me bitterly.

"Whatever." I mutter and mum shakes her head in a dissatisfied way. It might have been mean of me to talk like that, but it is true. Mum exits the living room without any further words and that is when I notice that Jack has been standing behind her and from the look of his face I can tell that he has heard everything I have said.

"Oh no." I breathe quietly. I barely have time to recognize Jack before he disappears up the stairs. Quickly I release my book and hurry after him. "Jack, wait!" I call after him as I run up the stairs. I finish climbing them soon enough to see Jack shutting his door with an incredible amount of force. I hastily make my way towards it and knock on it with my fist.

"Jack, please listen to me. That came out wrong..." I say desperately to the door, which Jack refuses to open.

"Come on, open the door so I can explain." I say and knock harder on the piece of wood in front of me. I don't get an answer now either, the only thing I hear is some muffled movement from inside the room.

"Jack, please." I plead with him. The only thing I receive back is silence and after standing outside the door like a maniac, for a long time, I give up and go back down again. Sighing to myself and feeling gloomy.
