North Poles

And I can't stop myself from hoping, still, that you'll call.
That you'll put aside the time it's been and
the past we've had,
and the hurt we notoriously cause each other.
You'll call and I'll tell you that I've missed you so restlessly that not even the biggest collapsing stars in the universe could
reflect the hole in my heart; a heart still shattered from the bang of the door you slammed as you finally walked away.
And you'll tell me you can't seem to think about anything else besides the way my eyes sparkle in the sunlight.
And I'll tell you I love you too.
And it won't matter one bit, because love, no matter how strong and unconditional it is,
is not enough to keep two burning buildings
from falling.
or to make two north poles kiss one another.
