I arrived at the Marriott Hotel, my heart threatened to pound right through my chest and leave my body as I could feel a lump form in my throat. David was missing. Someone broke into his apartment and now he's missing? Did he realize what had happened and went over the intruder? Did he walk in on the burglary stealing something valuable to him and chased them out?

But why would he do something so stupid as that? Why not just come back home; What the heck has he been doing since last night? Unless he was---

No, he couldn't have! Could he?

The taxi pulled up to the entrance of the hotel and I found my father waiting for me. I climbed out of the vehicle and as the driver got my suitcase, I jogged straight for dad and hugged him for dear life.

"Oh sweetheart," he let out a huge sigh of relief as he returned the embrace. "How was your flight?"

"Fine," my voice was muffled as my face was buried into his sweater. I lifted my head up to meet his gaze as I pulled away from the hug. "Is mom inside?"

"She's back in our room," He nodded, wiping off some stray tears as the taxi driver handed me my suitcase. "Come on, I'll help you check in,"

Squeezing his hand with my free hand, I dragged my suitcase along as he escorted me inside the building. I couldn't help but notice a police car or two parked near by.

There was very few people present, the overall atmosphere fairly pleasant with tourists passing through as they travel and do some sight seeing for the holiday season. As for my father and myself; it was like we were trapped in a bubble. A bubble that consisted of a thunder cloud and a heavy weight on our souls.

My father put on a smile for the receptionist as he checked me in. I took a glance around the lobby, seeing all the happy faces of the other guests. A pair of children, a boy and a girl played tag together. I couldn't help but see a bit of Dave and myself within them and it was too much for me to bare as I immediately turned away.

"Come with me, sweetheart," My father, Joseph, gently wrapped his arm around me as he led me across the room and entered a hallway. Two rows on either side of us were lined with oak wooden doors, but only one differed from the others. That difference was that there was a police officer standing guard. "Officer Janko,"

The police man turned, relaxing his shoulders from his stern guard as wrinkles of is chocolate brown skin slacked while he thinned his lips as he watched the two of us approach. "Joseph," he nodded in greeting. "You must be his daughter,"

"Hope, this is officer Janko," Joseph explained calmly as his hand gently stroked my shoulder. "He and his partner will be assisting in the case,"

I looked up at the tall man, offering a small smile. "Thank you. . . for helping my family,"

"Miss Ivery, I swear to you on behalf of the force we will do everything we can to find out what happened to your brother," he proclaimed, the grip on his belt tightening.

"Thank you, officer," I nodded my head respectfully in return.

My dad brought out his hotel room key card as he tapped it on the authentication lock and the blip blinked a neon green indicating that it was accepted. "Your room is next door, but I'm sure you'd like to see your mother,"

I didn't say nothing in reply, but then again my father already knew that was what I would want. He pulled down on the door handle as Officer Janko stepped aside to allow us passage. The door opened as Joseph motioned for me to enter first. Pulling my suitcase behind me I entered the room to find your typical accommodations for a hotel room. A king size bed with white sheets and pillows, a dresser with a TV on top, bathroom off to the side, and a balcony at the other end of the room.
