Chapter 28: Raid
🌹🌹🌹

"Look out Kitty!" Taehyung exclaimed, raising his gun to shoot.

The moment I sunk my army knife into a guard's neck, the ice cold blade cut through the man's skin and larynx. Blood pooled in the guard's mouth, a sick gurgling bubbling from his throat. While I was so focused on eliminating this guard, I became unaware of my surroundings. Thankfully Taehyung was there to watch my back. Pulling the trigger of his gun, a silver bullet shot out of the barrel of his gun and exploded from the weapon and fired directly into a man's forehead. The lead mass whizzed right past the top of my head, and sunk into another guard's brain, killing him instantly. His body fell back onto the floor with an eerie thud, but I didn't bother to stare at the corpse. Sighing softly, I shoved my knife into my thigh holsters and stood up straight to greet Taehyung. Despite a mask covering half of his face, I had a feeling he was smiling gently at me.

"Thanks," I hummed quietly.

"It's no problem," he replied, reaching out to pat my head while putting his gun away.

Taehyung chuckled lightly, his eyes lighting up despite the dim glow of the building windows. I tilted my head in adoration at the man's demeanour, not bothered by the situation we were in. Spinning on my heel, I turned to Sweet Unnie, who had just finished taking her guys out as well. She panted heavily, her heavy breathing bypassing the material covering her face. Sweet directed her attention towards us, and she nodded with approval, giving both Taehyung and I the all clear. Pressing on my earpiece, I alerted the rest of the group that the route ahead was good to travel through. Within just a few minutes, the Unnies, as well as Kai and Yugyeom appeared from further down the hall. The three of us waited for them to catch up with us before proceeding onwards.

Things were going for our first joint mission with the mafia. We expected to encounter some resistance along the way, but we planned accordingly for it. Crimson along with Taehyung, Kai, and Yugyeom were in charge of retrieving data from Draco's independent network. We- Sweet and myself- offered to help the boys with killing assassinating Jaesuk, but they all objected. Namjoon was the most avid about this; he didn't say it, but I knew it was mainly directed towards me, the intention was there. My brother wanted to keep me away from the front lines, however, he kept in mind that this was my fight too. He didn't want me to get hurt, I understood where he was coming from. The guy practically almost lost me twice, the least I could do is ease his nerves.

Before we left for the mission, Namjoon made me promise that I would call for help if I was ever in a pinch. Both Namjoon and I take promises seriously, this wasn't something to be taken lightly. However, since Taehyung was also coming with the data retrieval team, Namjoon asked him to take care of me. He didn't hesitate to make that promise with my brother, surely that speaks volumes.

While we were continuing on our designated route, the others were most likely brawling with Jaesuk's men downstairs. We weren't sure of where the assault team currently was below us- the moment we infiltrated the building, the two groups went their separate way to fulfill our different missions. I couldn't help but worry about the boys who might be locked in combat below our feet, especially Namjoon and Hoseok. Both of them were severely affected by our parent's deaths, and it's more than likely that they hold a steel-strong grudge against Robyn Alistair. I honestly hope that they can keep their heads clear and not do anything too rash.

"Here we are," MaeLin chimed.

We arrived in a large room, numerous and gigantic processing cores spread across the floor. Candy colour masses of wiring connected the large machines- I couldn't begin to imagine the amount of information being passed through those things by the minute. Turning to the tech expert herself, it looked like Mae-Lin Unnie was in computer heaven. Her eyes lit up like a cartoon character laying their gaze on something that makes them extremely happy and excited. For the woman herself, being surrounded by giant processing cores and wires was enough to make her jump around in joy, despite being in enemy territory. Erika scolded her in an amused manner, telling her to focus and link Cardinal to the network. Before setting out, MaeLin Unnie temporarily changed Cardinal's algorithm so that he could connect to Draco's network and be invisible to any scanners. Sort of like an invisible bug.

Just a fun fact, years earlier, MaeLin hacked into a government database and planted a bug into the system. Until now, the bug has been untraceable. We've kept the link, just in case we needed something from there.

"Watch my six please," she asked, inserting the thumb drive into a USB port.

Both Taehyung and I left the others to watch over MaeLin while we guard the only entrance to the room. We simply stood in front of the opening, making light conversation with each other. We went over a few topics of least importance in the current situation, however, it fell to my past relationships, not that I minded.

"You've never had a boyfriend before?" Taehyung gaped at me.

I couldn't help but laugh at him as I could see the shocked expression behind his mask. I knew that Taehyung liked me, where this question was coming from was obvious. With a gentle tease, I nudged his arm with my elbow.
"Of course not, even when Joon and I were apart," I answered. "When he and I were little, he said that I wasn't allowed to date unless he deemed the boy to be worthy."
Taehyung visibly shuddered from my response. Both of us were aware that Namjoon was definitely capable of letting all hell loose if the wrong buttons were pushed. That man can be scarier than the worst serial killers when it came to protecting his family. He will not hesitate to throw hands if any one of us was hurt. I laughed a little louder this time, holding my stomach as I hunched over. Taehyung pouted at me, but I didn't hesitate to wrap my around around him.

"Don't worry so much about it," I reassured him. "He won't hurt you, you're brothers."
"What-what did he do?" the man shivered.
"You're good, relax," I snorted.

Taehyung sighed softly before returning the hug. With a light hunch, he snuggled his face into the crook of my neck. I can't deny that we get so soft for each other sometimes, whether it be something as simple as a hug, or sleepy time cuddles. I nuzzled into his warm chest, undoubtedly feeling at peace in his arms. Taehyung's strong arms rocked me back and forth, earning soft chuckles from me.

However, it was gut-wrenching when that feeling disappeared in a matter of seconds.
