A warm sensation racked my entire body as I was thrown to the ground. I could feel the warm dirt from the ground beneath me, with the occasional stick casting cuts on my arms.

I tried to fight the entire time I was dragged here, but it was hard considering every minute, my bones would contort.

As soon I was cast to the ground the pain from my translation turned into another pain. My insides felt like they were trying to escape at any cost, in a sense, it was way worse than the pain that my curse brought me.

"Oh my God, Kennedy." Elena's worried voice caused me to shoot up.

She was pacing back in forth inside a wall of fire that encircled her. A similar wall surrounded me, casting beads of sweat down my forehead.

"Elena wha- where am I?" I asked, but I was afraid that I already knew the answer.

"Klaus' ritual." Elena looked down.

"Oh my God." I gasped, "How did I get here? What happened?"

"I don't know Kennedy, a man just brought you here unconscious," Elena said from her circle of fire.

"I'm going to die." I hung my head low and placed my hands in my lap. Elena attempted to rush over to me causing the wall of fire to flare up around her.

"You're not going to die. We're gonna be alright," she assured me.

"No. You're not going to die. Everyone spent all this time worried about your death, but no one thought about mine. There's no way out of this for me, Elena." I blinked back tears that were threatening to spill out at any second. Elena couldn't see me upset, I didn't want that for her.

There had to be any way out of this. We always found a way that's what we do. Maybe Stefan or Damon will show up, ready to swoop in and save the day.

Looking around my surroundings, I had observed that we were at the quarry. I also saw another circle of fire, with a red-headed woman at the center of it. The stench of vampire radiated off of her.

"How are you feeling?" Elena spoke to the woman.

"I feel like myself...Only not. Everything is brighter. The fire's hotter. Part of me is terrified, but there's another part of me that doesn't want to feel anything." I recognized the woman's voice, it was Elena's aunt Jenna.

Another wave of pain washed over me, even stronger than the first. My bones were trying to shift, but it was being suppressed. My insides were trying to contort, but all of the pain was directed inward.

I groaned in pain, "What's happening to me?"

"I cast a spell to slow down your transformation. Your insides are trying to tear themselves free." An ebony woman answered me. At the wave of her hand, the ring of fire around me had intensified.

"Greta, witches are supposed to maintain the balance in nature. It's your duty to them to keep this curse sealed." Elena tried.

"My duty is to Klaus! The new order." Greta shouted.

A tall man with sandy blonde hair and pink lips approached the four of us with a sinister grin on his face. If it was under any other circumstance I might've found him attractive.

"Glad to know I still have a dance partner." I smiled at Greta. He looked at Elena, Jenna and me, "Hello, my lovelies. Are we ready?"

"Klaus," I breathed before another wave of pain came. I was on the floor in fetal position, moaning as I felt the pain of all two-hundred six bones trying to break.

"That's my name," he approached my circle of fire, "And I know yours, Nathalia Lockwood." He raised an eyebrow smirked, leaning down so he was eye level with me.

I sat up, "How do you know my birth name?"

"Ah ah, Nathalia, you don't get to ask questions. Klaus stood, "You know, I knew your adoptive parents looked familiar."

"I swear to God if you hurt them-"

Klaus laughed, "You are not in the positive to make threats, love. And don't worry, I saw them tonight. They're safe and sound."

"You're wrong. My parents wouldn't let you within five feet of them."

"I think you're mistaken, we're friends. If it wasn't for them, you wouldn't be here right now."

Tears welled up in my eyes, "What do you mean?"

"Well I presume now is a good time as any to tell you." Klaus folded his hands together, "I assume your parents told you about a business trip they went on? Or was it a vacation I don't really remember what I told them to say."

"Get to the point," I mumbled.

"We spent some quality time together in New Orleans. We drank, we partied, just enough so that all of the vervain was out of their system. I compelled them to make sure you were safe at all costs and to hand you over when the time was right. They almost resisted the compulsion until I told them it was for your own good." Klaus shrugged.

"Why me?"

Klaus ignored my question and made his way over to the young witch on a nearby hill. He pulled out an almost translucent stone from his pocket.

"I've got the moonstone. I spent five hundred years looking for this. I hate to part with it." Klaus handed the stone to Greta, who clasped it in her hands.

Greta looked up, "The moon has passed its apex. Remember everything you need to do?"

"I remember." Klaus nodded.

Greta took the moonstone and dropped it into a stone cauldron of sorts, causing flames to rise up from beneath it. Greta began chanting a Latin spell aggressively. Klaus turned from Greta and approached us again, getting closer to my ring of fire.

"You know love, it was going to be Tyler, but I guess he was the one that got away. You can thank your friend Damon for that."

I was still in pain, but my fear had outweighed anything else I was feeling.

"Klaus please, you don't have to do this." I pleaded. I didn't bother to stop the tears that were now streaming down my face. Klaus was getting even closer to the fire, causing me to cry out even more. "I'm begging you."

"I've been waiting five hundred years to break this curse. Nothing you can say will change what will happen tonight." Klaus looked at Greta, "Shall we?"

The ring of fire that was around me died down, making me easy access for the original. I used my werewolf speed to rush at Klaus and tackle him to the ground. I was on top of him, snarling and trying to get in any blows that I could. Klaus was a lot stronger than me, so he was able to push me off of him, pinning me to the ground with one hand.

I grunted and lifted myself up using all of my strength to try to escape his grip. Klaus uses his other hand to pin me to the ground, this time with a strength that was impossible for me to escape.

"Your perseverance is truly admirable, little warrior." Klaus lifted an arm and plunged it into my chest, causing me to cry out. Tears stained my cheeks as I choked on the blood that was now coming from my mouth.

"Klaus no!" I heard Elena scream in the distance. Him and I both knew that it was no use. Klaus's hand gripped around my heart, making it beat faster than it'd ever had. My head lifted as I choked on more of my blood.

Klaus yanked his hand backward, pulling my heart out of my chest with ease. My chest tightened as I struggled to get in one last breath. My skin grew cold, starting from the tips of my toes to the top of my head. My vision clouded over until everything was dark. Until there was nothing.

That's the funny thing about death. Everyone fears death. Not the painful moments leading up to it, but the time afterward. The loneliness of not knowing what's in store for you after you take your last breath. After you lived your last day.
